Carle is appearing as part of Ventfort Hall’s 2008 theme “The Civil War: Birth of the Gilded Age” and in conjunction with its ongoing exhibit, “Les Petites Dames de Mode” (The Little Ladies of Fashion), which spans the period 1855 and 1914.
All done with great taste, at the same time with a great sense of humor, Carle dresses from the inside out in vintage and authentically reproduced undergarments, outer clothing and accessories, adding history and intriguing anecdotes about fashion, home life and etiquette during the Civil War era.
She brings to light some of the differences, as well as some of the similarities between our Victorian ancestors and us. A visual delight resplendent with wit and grace, her performance will be a refreshing view of a magnificent era in American history. The program includes audience participation and questions are encouraged throughout.
Carle has performed in theater as an actress, dancer and singer in the United States and abroad, covering the spectrum from Shakespeare to musical comedy. She has also demonstrated dressing the Gilded Age Lady of the 1890s at Ventfort Hall, as well as the Edwardian Lady of the 1900s.
Performance by Kandie Carle, "Dressing the Victorian Woman, Civil War Style", followed by Victorian Tea. 4:00 pm
Tickets : $15 Non-members/$12 Members
