The public is cordially invited to two opening receptions:
UP-CLOSE-AND-PERSONAL
exhibit and the LYNNARTS FABULOUS HOLIDAY
SHOW
& SALE have been scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2008, from
2-4 pm.
The LynnArts Fabulous Holiday Show & Sale features

collage,
photography, sculpture, fiber arts, jewelry, mixed media and much more.
Refreshments and holiday treats will be served.
The Little Gallery Under The Stairs opened in June, 2006 in
the lower level of the
LynnArtsBuilding in
Central Square, Lynn, MA.
The gallery exhibits artwork
that is process driven and communicative of shared human experience.
In the UP-CLOSE-AND-PERSONAL exhibit, Sand T shows nearly 50
pieces of mixed media paintings on acrylic glass and hardboard. The
work
documents the continuously evolving conditions of the artist’s personal
experience in a multi-cultural setting.
The gallery director, Jocely Almy – Testa, who also
coordinates the Hartman Leigh Children's
ArtGallery
for LynnArts and serves on the LynnArts curatorial staff, states,
“Through
these works, Sand T shows the relationships and boundaries between two
or more
cultures, dreams and realities, and spaces of intimacy and immensity.
Soh H. Tan Kalloch (who goes by the professional name of
SAND T) says, “I am particularly interested in looking into the
substance
of transformation (change/creation), transplantation
(relocation/adaptation)
and translation (language/communication).”
The material Sand embed in her work is a combination of sketches,
computer generated images, Polaroid photos, floor plans, journal
excerpts, and
trilingual text that she has collected through the years.
These elements have served as the inspirations and means to
create this series of documentation work. The resin droplets over the
surface
function as miniature magnifying glasses: distorting, inspecting and
amplifying
the particular topic being illustrated.
Besides the abridged representation of real life experiences, most of
the
pieces are compact visual models of her dreamscapes. “Though I could
not
possibly illustrate real life experience or dreams in one body of work,
I
operate under the old saying: “Dream reveals reality, reality reflects
dream”.
I intend to create a compressed environment where I can revisit and
reflect.”
Sand T adds.
Currently Sand T maintains an art studio in
Malden, Massachusetts.
She has exhibited her work in
New York,
Iowa,
Connecticut,
Maine,
Massachusetts,
Malaysia,
Singapore
and
Taiwan.
Her work resides in public and private art collections worldwide,
including
collections in
Australia,
United States,
Taiwan,

Germany and
Japan.
