Activities at the Marlborough Public Library – October 25-31, 2009

MARLBOROUGH, MA---For the week of Sunday, October 25, to Saturday, October 31, the Marlborough Public Library will be open Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During the week the library is presenting the following programs.

Open Art Studio:  Join area art enthusiasts in an open and supportive creative atmosphere designed to help you find your inner artist.  Participants must bring their own art supplies and projects.  Artists of all skill and ability welcome.  This program will be held on Monday, October 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No registration is required to attend this program.  Please contact Sal Genovese at 508-624-6901 for more information.

Preschool Pals:  Designed for children ages 3½ to 6 years old, Preschool Pals includes stories, songs, finger plays, and a craft.  This program will be held on Monday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Registration is required to attend this program.  Please contact the Children’s Department at 508-624-6902 to register or for more information.

Thrills and Chills with Storyteller John Porcino:  Join us on Monday, October 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as we welcome nationally renowned storyteller John Porcino for some scary stories! John will spin a handful of his most beloved haunted tales to celebrate the season and put a little Halloween chill into the air. You’ll meet an assortment of unsettling eerie, humorous ghoulish and oddly “spooktacular” characters; goblins, ghost, trolls and other things that go bump in the night. This program is intended for children in 3rd through 6th grades. Due to the nature of the stories, younger children are not advised to attend. This is a free, drop-in program, no registration required. Space is limited to 70 people so arrive early to get a good seat!  Please call the Children’s Department at 508-624-6902 for more information.

Halloween Party:  Join us on Tuesday, October 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for a Halloween Party! We'll have spookily fun stories, a craft, games, and snacks to put you in the Halloween spirit! Costumes are encouraged! This program is for children ages 4 and up. Registration is required and is limited to 40 children and their caregivers.  Please call the Children’s Department at 508-624-6902 to register or for more information.

Baby Time:  Designed for children ages birth to 18 months old, Baby Time includes stories and songs for babies.  This program will be held on Wednesday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  Registration is required to attend this program.  Please contact the Children’s Department at 508-624-6902 to register or for more information.

Operation Otaku:  On Thursday, October 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Marlborough Public Library’s amine and manga fan club will meet.  Interested teens please contact David Mackenzie at 508-624-6900 for more information.

Toddler Time: 
Designed for children ages 1½ to 3½ years old, Toddler Time includes toddler perfect stories and songs.  This program will be held on Friday, October 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Registration is required to attend this program.  Please contact the Children’s Department at 508-624-6902 to register or for more information.

Special Needs Storytime:  Join us on Saturday, October 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as Carole Flynn, a certified teacher with a master’s degree in special needs, presents a storytime that emphasizes stories and music especially designed for children with special needs and their families. Sign language will be incorporated into this program. This program is intended for children of all ages and their caregivers. No registration required.
