MATTAPOISETT, MA — A local couple were found dead Thursday afternoon inside their Tallman Street home, and police are investigating. The Plymouth County District Attorneys Office identified the victims as Joseph Battistelli, 78, and Shirley Battistelli, 74, both of 6 Tallman St. Joseph Battistelli was found in the basement, and appeared to have hanged himself and to have suffered a gunshot wound, according to Bridget Norton Middleton, spokesperson for the Plymouth County District Attorney ...

The Big 3 Lumber Company's sawmill on North St. went up in a hot blaze about midnight on May 2, 1986. Mattapoisett Fire Deparetment responded quickly to the Nroth St. location but it was too late for the old dry structure filled with wood, sawdust and vehicles. The saved the Coastal Communications business (now Uncle Jon's Coffee) but lost a building adjacent to it. Look carefully and you can see the silhouette of a saw blade in the fire.
