Strategic Auction Alliance and Town of Westford to auction 18 parcels of land on May 19; first ever auction for town
WESTFORD, MA, ISSUED MAY 3, 2010…The Town of Westford, MA will hold a tax possession real estate auction May 19, at 10 a.m. at the Westford Police Station meeting room, at which time 18 properties will be offered.
Kate Paquin, Chair of the Westford Tax Possession Sale Committee, said that many of the properties that will be auctioned have been in the possession of the town for decades, some dating back to the 1930s. “None of the properties being auctioned have houses on them; they are all vacant lots,” she said, noting that one of the items up for auction is a lakefront property at Nabnasset Lake. Properties range in size from 1/10th acre to 3.2 acres in size. Many, she said, were simple abandoned by the owners years ago and the town will now sell them to recoup revenue that was lost by failure to pay taxes.
There are many parcels that fall under this category; some, however, have gone to conservation and to affordable housing concerns. Several of the parcels abut conservation land. In all, there are 18 scheduled for the auction block.
The Town of Westford has retained the services of the Strategic Auction Alliance in Braintree/ Worcester, MA, to handle the sale. Veteran real estate auctioneer Tom Weitbrecht, who has conducted many auctions throughout New England, will conduct the sale.
