Theatre Project announces its newest project - Zippy the Pinhead: The Musical.
Auditions announced for new Community Project and Unique Opportunity.
Baltimore, MD---"Are We Having Fun, Yet?" That universally recognized phrase originated with the character of Zippy the Pinhead. Solidifying the comic strip's Baltimore associations, Theatre Project is pleased to announce it will serve as producer of a unique workshop production of "Zippy the Pinhead: The Musical." Bill Griffith, the Award winning and marvelously esoteric creator of the long running Strip, has provided acclaimed Baltimore composer Lorraine Whittlesey with the rights to create this unique show. Whittlesey has chosen Theatre Project as the ideal venue for the premiere of this project. Whittlesey will serve as Artistic Director and Theatre Project is co-producing the work with Private Sector Productions.
Do you have what it takes to be Zippy?
We are still in the early stages of development and Theatre Project will hold auditions in March (see dates below) to cast performers for a May 2010 reading and possible inclusion in the November workshop production. As many as fifteen individuals of all types are needed to participate. For additional information and to make audition appointments, call 410-539-3091.
Lorraine Whittlesey is perhaps best known, at least to Theatre Project audiences, as one half of the long running original series, 'Ebony and Irony' with Joyce Scott. She was last represented at Theatre Project with her original show "Einstein's Dreams," based on the N.Y. Times bestselling book by Dr. Alan Lightman, which was co-produced with McDaniel College. She has written the score and lyrics for Zippy and co-written the Book with Bill Griffith. Now the search begins for the Iconic Character who will wear the Muu Muu. A reading of Zippy will take place at Theatre Project on Sunday, May 2, with a workshop production of the musical scheduled for November 2010. Theatre Project will hold auditions for the May reading on March 8, 5:30 - 8 pm, March 9, 6 - 8 pm, and March 13, Noon - 5pm. Inclusion in the May reading does not guarantee a role in the November presentation.
