Chaska High is a school that believes in the potential of every learner and that education enables future opportunity and success. The goal is to prepare each learner for successful completion of a post-secondary education program, career opportunities and to prepare them to make meaningful contributions as a citizen of the local and global community. Over 80% of Chaska High students will continue their education after graduation.
Chaska High School operates on a 7-period modified block schedule which creates year-long, content-rich classes and more time to build relationships with students. It also allows flexible blocks of time to support labs and projects.
All high school classes have been re-designed to increase rigor. The new curriculum reflects a commitment to rigorous academics, relevant application of what is learned, and positive relationships between adults and students. In addition, courses include opportunities for acceleration for students needing even more challenge. College credits can also be earned in a wide variety of classes.
Chaska High School organizes learning at the junior and senior levels to allow students to concentrate their studies within broad interest areas including Arts and Communication, Global Studies, Health Science and Human Services, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM). Each interest area supports several programs of study which is a series of elective classes designed to allow students in-depth exploration of their interests. The curriculum builds understanding and skills by requiring students to complete prerequisite classes before moving on to more complicated material. A partnership with business and community will enable students to apply what they learn in real-world settings.
A Career Center is staffed to help students examine possible colleges and technical programs as they make that next step after graduation. Service learning allows students to apply academic learning to real community issues. Students choose from a broad array of co-curricular programs including activities such as athletics for boys and girls, drama academic competition, music and speech. Chaska High is currently part of the Lake Conference but will move to the Missota Conference effective for the 2010-2011 school year. The school has earned conference championships in recent years in volleyball, girls hockey, boys basketball and golf. CHS students regularly earn state and conference championships in Quiz Bowl, Knowledge Bowl and Science Bowl. These academic teams often compete at the national level. The band and vocal music programs consistently earn "superior" ratings at regional competition.
Many student organizations offer opportunities to develop leadership skills as well as serve the community. These organizations include Student Council, Key Club, Youth Commission, DECA, POWZA and many more.
