Three Women, Three Hundred Miles

category:Arts and Entertainment posted:September 1st, 2010

Why would three women navigate 300 miles of life-threatening rapids down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with nothing but dry suits, river boards, and their courage?

Find out in this original and exciting journey of three extraordinary women. Experience with them, nineteen days of doubts, challenges, and adventure, on an awesome river with harrowing rapids that do not play favorites!

This award winning documentary will be shown as part of a fundraiser/silent auction for expedition participant, Kelley Kalafatich who also co-filmed the movie with fellow film maker, Carr Clifton.

Kelley is learning to walk again after becoming paralyzed from Transverse Myelitis in 2007. Kelley's condition causes extreme pain every day, but she is not one to back down from challenges. She continues to exercise daily and is making progress. She is currently participating in a rigorous, but promising program called "Project Walk", and fundraiser proceeds will help her to continue with this much needed rehab.

“It is a motivational film for people to come watch… a film about transformation”, says Kelley. In our everyday lives there are things that hold us back from taking action that would lead us to positive outcomes....But by facing our fears we gain strength, courage and confidence.” This parallels one of Kelley’s favorite quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt... "You gain strength courage and confidence through every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face...you must do the thing you think you cannot do."

Kelley says, “I truly believe that is what I did do 2 ½ - 3 years ago, I faced my fear of becoming paralyzed and all the pain that came with it--I made it through the pain and the horror of my diagnosis.  And I continue to face my fear of all the nerve pain each day.....although I experience excruciating nerve pain daily through extensive exercise, and the fear of not knowing for sure when I will walk again.....I'm not giving up, I'm continuing to working hard, and I will walk again”.

The film showing/fund raiser will also feature a silent auction, door prizes, and a variety of hors d'oeuvres & desserts that will be served throughout the evening.

The event will be held Friday, September 17, from 5 - 9 pm at the New Life Fellowship Hall on Airport Rd. in Thompson Falls, Mt.

Tickets are $8 in advance, or $10 at the door. For tickets or more event information, contact Ro Fundum at 827-5180. Tickets may also be purchased at D & D Liquor in Thompson Falls.
