Our History

An awareness of the spiritual need of the people in the Savage Lake area brought about the formation of a Bible study in September, 1972, by Gary Walker, missionary with Rocky Mountain Bible Mission (RMBM). When Gary moved to Hot Springs in 1973, the studies were resumed by Reverend Clarence E. Kutz, another missionary with RMBM. The group met in a cabin by the home of Marvin Kates and in September, 1974, moved to the home of John Ring.

In March 1975, the Bible study group of about 40 people began considering building a church and voted to call the church the “Three Lakes Community Bible Church.” Property was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kates and construction began in April, 1975.

Reverend Kutz went home to be with the Lord in October, 1975, and David Nelson became Bible study leader that fall with Mrs. Kutz continuing to teach the children and Rocky Zaic teaching the youth. The by-laws and articles of incorporation for the “Three Lakes Community Bible Church” were drawn up and approved by the congregation November 4, 1976. The first Executive Council consisted of George L. Jordan, John A. Ring, Ivan R. Varner, Raymond W. Sampson and David A. Nelson.

Sunday services began in the church basement on February 6, 1977, with Bible study, youth group and children's classes held mid-week.

The church was incorporated in the state of Montana October 10, 1977.

The first service in the superstructure was held on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1978.
