This remount of The Actor’s Theatre production will give local audiences another chance to see the play hailed as the “Dramatic Event of the Year” by the New York Post. Doug Wright’s play tells the story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who successfully navigated the two most repressive regimes of the twentieth century-the Nazis and the Communists. Charlotte tells her stunning story of how, through cunning and charm, she defied the iron grip of these two political regimes. And after it all, viewed as a cultural ambassador, Berlin honored her with the "Verdienstkreuz," Germany 's highest civil award, in 1993.
