11th Annual SPARKcon 2016

Pop-Ups
Wild pop up performances to be found around SPARKcon 2016!

Bare Theatrestages battles from Henry VI and EverScape up and down Fayetteville St.; Seed Art Share performs a scene or two from A Night at the City of Raleigh Museum; and Raleigh Room Escapes debuts at SPARKcon with Professor Von Guttenburg and his zombie specimen as they roam the festival offering raffle tickets!

Dan Nelson's Live Painting at East Martin St.

By speed painting abstracts in acrylics over the course of several days Dan intends to rise to the occasion and paint the most consecutive works of art at one time in SPARKcon history.
The Candidates
Politicians, as the old saying goes, never say what they mean or mean what they say. This video installation hopes to remedy that by allowing the public to literally put words in the mouths of the 2016 Presidential candidates. Like in real life, the viewer has a choice between two candidates: a Republican and Democrat. Each candidate has been rendered as a cartoonish animated video image. Viewers may text a message via their mobile phones to the number listed on the screen and the candidate of their choice will then speak those words. The result is an experiment in direct democracy that uses crowdsourcing to compel the candidates to speak to the words we actually want to hear.

10:00 pm - 11:00 pm : Flimsy at Kings
In an unforeseen fluke of a cruel and unnatural world, five lost souls met in a dark, dank alley in East-Central-Mid-North Carolina, South-West-of-Raleigh, presumably for a West Side Story-style imbroglio (or brouhaha) over their mutual and perhaps overlapping melodic “turf”, but somehow ended up jamming together, using only the finest modern electrified instrumentation, in a structure that proved to be a long-since-abandoned (and most likely radioactive) Elk's lodge. The result? The soft embrace of 80's synthesizers, the warm caress of distorted guitars, the inhuman howl of a singer gone quite mad. This musical aberration can easily be known as an adjective, or in this case as noun, but simply goes by the moniker: Flimsy.
