"My 'Copper Shield' plan calls for $200 million in funding for putting 1,200 armed National Guard people on the border – that's $140 million – and $50 million for our local sheriffs and local county attorneys so that we can prosecute. The number-one cause of death among people aged 19 to 35 in this country and in our state is fentanyl overdose, and 92 percent of the illegal fentanyl coming into this country is coming across the Mexican border. It's a killer – that alone ... is enough reason for us to sharpen our skills and everything that we're doing at the border to make sure that this craziness stops."

"This is one of the issues that affects everybody from the young people that just got married trying to make their way in the world to the seniors that are on fixed incomes ... A lot of the inflation woes that are hitting us were foreseeable, because it really is a product of the spending that's going on in Washington D.C. ... With all of the money – the trillions that have been spent the last few years – it's been devastating."
