HOT L BALTIMORE was the first major success for Lanford Wilson. Critics and audiences loved Wilson's play, and it set an Off-Broadway record of 1,166 performances after playing Off-Off-Broadway for a month.

In the play, the actors mill about in the lobby of a dilapidated old hotel, from which the "e" in the hotel sign is missing hence the name, Hot L Baltimore. The play is comprised of a series of conversations between the residents of the hotel, who are contemplating an uncertain future after the hotel is condemned and scheduled for demolition.

Wilson's play won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for the Best American Play. It also won an Obie Award for best Off-Broadway play, an Outer Critics Award, and the John Gassner Playwriting award. The play was also sold to ABC and adapted as a situation comedy.

Production dates are Jan. 9, 16, 22, 23, 2016 @ 8PM; Jan. 17, 2016 @ 2PM - Matinee

WESTFIELD COMMUNITY PLAYERS (WCP), founded in 1934, has brought more than 300 comedies, dramas, musicals and mysteries to life on our stage. All productions are presented in our own 150 seat theater on the corner of Edgewood Avenue and North Avenue West in Westfield . With our productions, we continue to be part of the active cultural scene in Westfield and surrounding communities.

WCP is committed to offering hands-on participation for those wishing to learn more about various aspects of live theatrical production and performance while providing a varied theater experience to a broad audience. We do that by actively seeking volunteers to keep our theater functioning, and by maintaining an open-casting policy where everyone can audition for all of our scheduled plays.
