Bay Village City School District : Happy Holidays from Bay Village Schools!

Schools and Libraries

December 14, 2022

From: Bay Village City School District

As we get ready to embark on Winter Break, I pause for a moment to celebrate our families and community stakeholders during this holiday season. Despite the busyness during this time of year – athletic practices, holiday concerts, service projects and preparing your own homes for the holidays – many of you took the time to support our district at last month’s Strategic Vision Community Forum Meeting.

The work was reflective and genuine, and I learned a lot. I met current parents, past teachers and those who had students graduate a decade or more ago, and still choose to live in this fine city. I am grateful for the good work these folks put in, and I hope they left feeling their voices were heard and valued.

That group of 60 has been narrowed down to 13, including two current students, who will meet throughout the next two months to take that strategic vision work to the next level as we prepare to launch the strategic plan. Please consider attending future Board meetings to hear updates about this group’s progress.

Until then, I thank you for being a caring and involved community, and I hope you and your family take this time to embrace the reason for the season, and to reflect and refresh as we ring in 2023!

From the Prebles family to your family, Happy Holidays!

The Bay Village Education Foundation recently presented three grants worth nearly $3,000 to three teachers within Bay Village Schools. Congratulations to Ron Rutt, Technology Teacher at Bay High School; Jennifer Carney, Grade 3 Teacher/Garden Club Advisor at Westerly Elementary School; and Colin Lackey, Intervention Teacher at Bay Middle School. Thank you, Bay Village Education Foundation, for your support of our learning community!

Personal… I have been married to my husband, Thom, for 26 years. We have four sons that all attended Bay Village Schools, and three of them have graduated from Bay High: Cole ‘16; Cade ‘19; Cullen ‘21; and Carson, graduating with the Class of 2023. The three older boys all went to the University of Dayton; we are all waiting to see if Carson decides to follow in their footsteps!

Where are you from?  I am originally from Sandusky, Ohio. When people are unsure of where Sandusky really is, I tell them it is the “Home of Cedar Point!” We lived in Rocky River for about six years and then moved to Bay Village 20 years ago.

Hobbies and interests… My hobbies and interests have ALWAYS been watching our boys play sports! Since our youngest is graduating this year, we will have a lot more free time on our hands. We do enjoy visiting our sons in college, spending time in Catawba at our summer home and boating! Eventually, I hope to have time to just sit and read a good book!

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I am 100% Irish and the youngest of five kids. I attended first through 12th grade at St. Mary's Central Catholic, and graduated from THE Ohio State University! After college, I moved to California and spent a year there working for my uncle's athletic club in Long Beach before returning to Sandusky. My brother introduced me to my husband, Thom. They were friends for 12 years before I ever met him. After we met and started dating, we were engaged six months later!

What did you want to be when you grew up? A SCHOOL SECRETARY (hahahaaa!) because my mom was the secretary to a middle school principal when I was growing up.

Favorite color… My favorite color is red, but I don't wear it all the time. I have grown to love Bay blue…Go Rockets!

Favorite thing about Bay Village Schools… Being at the high school, I have enjoyed watching the students walk in as curious and nervous freshmen, and then seeing them mature and grow into confident young ladies and gentlemen ready to move on to the next chapter of their lives. And without saying, I love my co-workers! They make each day enjoyable, and we laugh all the time!

Favorite thing about the CLE/Northeast Ohio… My favorite thing about the CLE/Northeast Ohio would be enjoying Lake Erie and rooting on all the sports teams…Browns, Cavs and the Guardians!

Favorite quote… "Mothers hold their children’s hands for just a little while…And their hearts forever." ~ Irish proverb

Another favorite quote of mine is one that my dad would always tell us.
"God helps those who help themselves." ~ Benjamin Franklin
