Beaman Library's Summer Reading Program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, will come to an end this month, but there is still time to register and record your summer reading! Simply visit Beanstack to register for the reading challenge for your age group and record your reading and listening. Learn more about each reading challenge and the many programs scheduled for the remainder of the summer below!

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Fun For Adults

Our annual Summer Reading Program for Adults continues through the month of August! To participate, visit Beaman Library's Beanstack page and register for the Summer 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Adults challenge. If you read or listen to at least 100 minutes of content during the challenge you will be included in an end-of-challenge prize drawing. And...more reading translates into more drawing entries, so keep reading! Thank you to the Friends of the Beaman Library for funding our Summer Reading Programming!

Mindfulness Meditation & Hatha Yoga for Stress Reduction & Relaxation with Carol McGuiggan 
Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
August 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 

For beginner, intermediate, and experienced practitioners. Learn hatha yoga and mindfulness skills to turn off ‘auto-pilot’ and open to life more fully. Please bring a yoga mat, sitting cushion, and a receptive attitude.

Book Discussion Group

Thursday, August 18 at 12:30 p.m.

Join us to discuss Normal People by Sally Rooney. Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk.

Homemade Bug Repellant

Saturday, August 6 at 9:30 a.m.

Make fun and environmentally friendly repellants to ward off summer bugs. We will discuss various recipes and make three different bug repellants.

Fused Glass
Tuesday, August 16 at 6:00 p.m.

Create your own Dichroic fused glass pendant or magnet with colorful pre-cut glass in this easy, fun class. Your item will be available for pickup after it has been kiln-fired by instructor Deenie Pacik. Class size is limited; reservation is required. Please email [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to this program to register.
This craft is for ages 13 and up

Fun For Teens

The Summer Reading Program for Teens continues until the end of August! If you haven't already, visit Beaman Library's Beanstack page, register for the Summer 2022: Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Teens challenge, and record the number of minutes read each day. For every 100 minutes read, come into the Library to claim a scratch off ticket that reveals a prize. Once teen readers have recorded 1,000 minutes, they will be entered in the grand prize drawing! Thank you to the Friends of the Beaman Library for funding our Summer Reading Programming!

Ongoing Throughout Summer

Stop by the Teen Space, grab a Post-it note, and create a tiny piece of art with the materials provided. When you are done, add it to our ‘sticky’ display!

Have you ever wondered, “Are we alone?” Join NASA Solar System Ambassador Geoff McLean on Zoom for a presentation as we explore the various ways in which we humans are trying to detect life on other planets – regardless if it be microbial or intelligent.


Crafternoon
Thursday, August 25 at 3:00 p.m.

Feeling crafty? Stop by the Library and satisfy those crafty cravings! A variety of materials will be available for you to create as wish.

Fun For Children

Our Summer Reading Program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path for Kids, comes to an end on August 16! Visit Beaman Library's Beanstack site to finish logging your books, earn tickets, and enter raffles for your prizes of choice.

Zoo Animal Program
Wednesdays, August 3 thru August 17 at 11:00 a.m.

Each week we will stream a live cam in our meeting room, read stories about the featured animal, and create a craft.


Take a Hike on the Rail Trail
Thursday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m.

 We will be putting up a book walk and scavenger hunt along the Rail Trail. We will provide the ultimate hiking food, Gorp, for all participants. Please email [email protected] with ‘Hike’ in the subject line by July 27 to reserve your spot. Let us know how many people will be attending and if there are any food allergies in your group. Rain date: Friday, August 5.

Arteca's Karate
Friday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m.
Join Master Jared for 45 minutes of instruction in the traditional Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do. Parents may join their kids for this fun class. Master Jared helps all participants learn to be the best versions of themselves! Sign up by sending an email to [email protected] with 'Karate' to reserve your spot by August 1. Rain date: August 12.

The Little Gym
Tuesday, August 9 at 10:15 a.m.
Join local business, The Little Gym, here at the Library for a movement program. This program is for children up to the age of 6. Email [email protected] with 'TLG' in the subject line by August 2 to attend.

Owl Pellet Dissection
Thursday, August 11 at 4:00 p.m.
Upper elementary students, sign up to dissect an owl pellet and document your observations! What did the owl eat for dinner? Email [email protected] with 'Owl' in the subject line to reserve your spot by August 4. Space is limited!

Family Frozen Ice Social
Thursday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Close out summer with relaxing family time, live music, and frozen ice on the Library lawn. Celebrate the many accomplishments of our readers, including prizes for the highest readers. Email [email protected] with 'Frozen' in the subject line to indicate your participation by August 16.
