For your body and soul: four must-see TEDxCapeMay talks sponsored by Cape May MAC

As part of our educational mission, Cape May MAC sponsors the production of TEDx talks at Cape May Convention Hall. From our 2022 series entitled "Body and Soul," here are four featured talks:

Having Arete: Living your life on purpose - Steve Edwards

Given that a worldwide pandemic has prompted many people to reflect on their purpose in life, we encourage you to watch and share this TEDx talk given by New Jersey Hall of Fame President Steve Edwards, entitled “Having Arete: Living your life on purpose.” Steve speaks passionately about the soul of the New Jersey Hall of Fame mission which is based on the ancient Greek concept of Arete: striving for our highest and best sense of selves and for the greater good.

Steve shares the inspiring journey of his father from high school drop out from the Newark projects, to the neurosurgical operating rooms of Mt. Sinai hospital in New York City. It’s a moving tale about the human ability to realize our dreams against the odds.

Dead **** Syndrome: Side effect of sitting too long - Nicole Simonin

As our society switches to more computer and tech time, we sit for extended periods, which can have numerous effects on our bodies. One is Dead **** Syndrome. Nicole will share how this happens and how you can offset it with a few tips and exercises. Nicole is a Health and Behavior Coach, Personal Trainer, podcast host of “Weight Loss for Women Over 40”, tv host of “Healthy Travel with Nicole”, author of “The No Fuss, No Mess Cookbook”, TEDx Speaker, former Physical Therapist Assistant, and former professional ballet dancer. Nicole has been featured in Rachael Ray in Season, Bicycling Magazine, Real Simple, and MSN.

Happiness is not where you're looking - Renée Marino

In this talk, Renée Marino explains how the true and everlasting happiness we seek is not found by escaping our thoughts, feelings, and circumstances through digital technology. When we first connect with our inner selves and find self-acceptance for who we are, we can move into the happiness we desire.

Renée Marino is a professional communication coach named by Yahoo Finance as one of the "Top 10 Communication Coaches to Follow in 2021!" Renée helps women communicate with confidence through simple and easy tools…all while having fun! Her best-selling book, Becoming a Master Communicator, endorsed by Bryan Adams, Dean Graziosi, Chazz Palminteri, Russell Brunson, Jenna Kutcher, and Dhomonique Murphy, is a powerful guide for those struggling to have clear and honest communication in a world driven by digital technology.

Renée can be seen as the female lead role, Mary Delgado, in the movie "Jersey Boys," directed by Clint Eastwood, and has graced the Broadway stage in many musicals. She has been featured in People.com's "Ones to Watch," Variety, and The Huffington Post.

Renée was the co-host of Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi's "World Summit" and a featured speaker at the 2022 "Secret Knock Women" event.

Creating yourself - Tom Triumph

Tom Triumph examines why thinking more like an artist and “moving into the realm of thinkers, builders, and doers” can improve how we view the world and our work. He says, “The human eye can distinguish about 10 million different colors, yet many people experience the world in terms of an 8-crayon box.” Tom Triumph is a consultant, speaker, and author who helps companies grow by helping them reinvent their business, product development, and marketing. He’s helped large organizations act nimbly and small companies scale. He’s participated in two global technology revolutions— and along the way, has been part of some remarkable success stories (and some misfires).

Tom lived aboard a research ship where he tended to the minisub, wrestled in the Olympic trials, and helped oversee the design and build of the largest composite hovercraft ever built in the US. He’s the author of the book "Evolve or Die: Lessons for World-Class Innovation & Creativity."
