Caterpillar Hunt - Lake Street Park

Government and Politics

From: Town of Shrewsbury

Did you know?

- Caterpillars have 12 eyes. The caterpillars are known to have 6 pairs of eyes which are tiny eyelets known as stemmata.
- Protection from predators. They often hide in their host plants to protect themselves from predators like birds, small mammals, and other insects that feed on them.
- The only job for them is to eat. The caterpillar is the larvae stage of butterflies and moths.

Please join us on the morning of June 18th at Lake St Park as naturalist Martha Gach leads us on a hunt for caterpillars!  We will begin at 10 am along the paved trail and near the picnic tables. There are oak trees with low branches which should be ideal for a caterpillar search.

The path is ADA accessible and perfect for strollers.  There is parking across the road from the picnic benches and down the hill near the soccer fields.

Hope to see you there!
