We have "Put Down Roots"!

Our annual Concerts Under the Elms series returns next week, and we can't wait to welcome you back!

When you arrive on the Great Lawn of the John Brown House Museum, you may notice things look rather different!

We have been hard at work Putting Down Roots, our bicentennial initiative to revitalize the Great Lawn and ensure the landscape and museum are accessible today and for generations to come.

The plans for the space, including the paths, benches, and beautiful vistas, are inspired by the landscape designed by the Olmsted Brothers circa 1900. The grounds now feature ADA-accessible parking and pathways, lighting, and new trees.

While much progress has been made, more will come this summer, and additional plantings, interpretive signage, and sponsor acknowledgments will be installed, completing the project. But, of course, this project will only improve with time as our trees and landscape mature.

We hope you are as excited to see the new Great Lawn as we are to show you!
