DEARBORN, MI – On Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, Carl Mintz was arraigned at the 19th District Court by Judge Mark W. Somers on one felony count of Threat of Terrorism and a misdemeanor count of Malicious Use of Telecom Device.

Mintz was arrested by Dearborn Police at his home in Farmington Hills on Thursday, Oct. 12, after posting a threat on social media that proposed violence against Palestinian-American residents of Dearborn. The post was identified via an anonymous tip shared with the Dearborn Police Department on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Bond was set by Judge Somers at $500,000 cash surety and no 10 %. As a condition of his bond agreement, Mintz was assigned a GPS tether device and is banned from possessing weapons and using the internet. A probable cause conference is scheduled to take place later in this month.

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud stated, “Threats of violence against our community will not be tolerated. We are pleased to see that the charges filed this weekend reflect the severity of the message of hate that this individual chose to post online last week.”

Dearborn Chief of Police Issa Shahin added, “We take all threats very seriously. Although we are currently unaware of any further credible threats, we have increased police patrols across Dearborn and at all places of worship in the interest of the public safety and security of our city’s residents, workers, and visitors.”
