From: Chicago a Cappella

30th anniversary season is kicking off in just fifteen days! Our upcoming holiday concerts will celebrate traditions with a twist:

Discussing Stephen Paulus' arrangement of "Joy to the World," featured in Holidays a cappella, Music Director Benjamin Rivera asks listeners to "Let your ears guide you to what you would normally expect – and then listen to what is actually going on. The experience is unusual and quite extraordinary, a new way of hearing the familiar joy"

We'll also present a one-night-only Hanukkah a cappella concert on Dec. 7, showcasing a keen sensitivity to both biblical and modern Hebrew, as well as Yiddish elements (and English) intertwined with American jazz and popular styles.

For a limited time, through the end of Thanksgiving weekend, you can take advantage of a special $25 ticket price using discount code HOLIDAYS25 at checkout. We invite you to join us in experiencing the collective effervescence of these concerts, celebrating the fusion of old and new in these enchanting musical journeys!

NEW ON THE CAC BLOG

Ahead of Chicago a cappella's "Holidays a cappella" concerts, soprano Elizabeth Shuman discusses the feeling of awe and shared joy experienced at live performances:

Chicago a cappella audiences know collective effervescence–that shiver up your spine when the ensemble finishes your favorite song, locked in a perfectly tuned jazz chord; that “WOW!” you can’t help from exclaiming after Cari holds a high note longer than you thought possible; that urge to clap (or get up and dance!) when Joe starts a vocal percussion riff....This season’s Holidays a cappella program offers a fitting spectrum of repertoire. A chillingly beautiful arrangement of “Gabriel’s Message” by the late Paul Nicholson offers a mystical sense of wonder, and the familiar Al Hanisim brings a rhythmic playfulness, but my own favorite part might be hearing Ace Gangoso exuberantly proclaiming a solo line in the Christmas Spiritual Medley.
