The Magic Bullet

People ask me all the time when it comes to workforce development and hiring staff in this seemingly difficult time, 'What’s the magic answer, what is the magic bullet?' The answer is simple and sometimes disappointing, there is no magic, there is no simple solution in this season. What I’ve found is that your successful companies are taking a multi-tiered approach to solve their hiring needs. Here are a few things that may help you:

Be open to different recruiting methods

Explore nonstandard talent pools

Reduce your on-boarding timeframe if possible

Explore the competitiveness of your hiring package

Reduce the Commute Job Fair - Thank You!

Last week's Reduce the Commute Job Fair was a great success! We had over 45 employers and approximately 400 job seekers in attendance. Preliminary numbers show that roughly 120 people were interviewed, 40 people were offered a job on-site and nearly 200 job applications were distributed. Staff will be distributing a follow-up survey to all of the employers who attended to gather additional data and garner feedback to aid in planning future job fairs. Thank you to all who participated!

ADOT I-10 Widening Project Updates

The new traffic interchange at Miller Road is officially open! Diverging diamonds have grown in popularity across the country and are designed to limit traffic conflict points and crashes. Check out this animation from ADOT on how it all works.

Westbound I-10 on and off ramps will be closed through mid-November. Please use Miller Road as a detour. Visit the ADOT project page for further traffic information.

If you missed the August Chamber ADOT meeting you can access the presentation here.
