City Council Selects Pamela Wu as New City Manager

The Cupertino City Council has selected Pamela Wu to be the next Cupertino City Manager. Council will consider and vote on the appointment of Wu at its next regular City Council meeting on July 19.

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Mayor Darcy Paul. “It was great to have the benefit of Deb Feng’s decades of federal administrative expertise at NASA, and then to have Jim Throop’s years of experience as City Manager to bring in our current new fiscal year. Council’s selection of Pamela Wu is made with an eye on the future, with the City of Cupertino not only saying, ‘We’re ready,’ but doing so with the same sustained confidence, energy and capabilities that we know that Pamela will bring to the table. I believe that, ultimately, this is going to be universally recognized as a fantastic hire. I look forward to the upcoming months as people get to know our new City Manager.”

Wu brings over 20 years of experience in local municipal service to Cupertino. In her current role as Community and Economic Development Director for the City of San Bruno, Wu oversees the Building, Planning, and Housing divisions. Prior to serving in San Bruno, she worked at the City of Gilroy and the County of Santa Clara. While working in planning at the County, Wu gained experience, insight, and knowledge in development and land use planning. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley.

“With great excitement, I am elated for the opportunity to return to the areas of my roots, to lead the City team and the Cupertino community into our next chapter of excellence,” stated Wu.

If Wu’s contract is approved, her first day with the City will be August 29.
