DEARBORN, MI – The City of Dearborn’s Finance Department is pleased to announce its comprehensive finance report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021 has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

GFOA’s Certificate Program was established in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles, and prepare annual financial reports that demonstrate the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, the City of Dearborn was issued an unmodified audit opinion by independent auditors Plante & Moran, PLLC. This type of opinion is the most favorable outcome given during audits.

Dearborn Finance Director and Treasurer Michael Kennedy stated: “It is an honor and pleasure to be able to lead the team of professionals in our Finance Department. The above two accomplishments are the culmination of thousands of hours and transactions to ensure the City’s financial information is accurately maintained according to local, state and federal regulations as well as Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). These achievements are not possible without the dedication and hard work of each employee within our department and also within the various operational departments within the field across the City.”
