Welcome to the July 2022 Edition of the Monarch Press. As you head off into your holiday weekend, we want to wish you a safe and fun Fourth of July and encourage you to celebrate without illegal fireworks. Watch this video message to see the many reasons why it’s just not worth it. July is officially Parks and Rec Month! Download our Activities Calendar to enjoy all our city parks and open spaces have to offer this month. Also, put on your walking shoes for a unique opportunity to see improvement plans at our beloved Ellwood Mesa Monarch Butterfly Grove on July 7 and 9. With the November 8th General Municipal Election coming up, make sure to read our article on what Goleta voters will be asked to decide this year in our first District Elections. Other noteworthy items include, the long-awaited San Jose Creek Bike Path Project is back in the spotlight and Goleta’s Draft Housing Element is headed to the State for review. As you can see, there is so much happening this summer in Goleta and we appreciate you taking time stay caught up! Thanks in advance for being a considerate neighbor this Fourth of July and always.

Celebrate the 4th Without Illegal Fireworks

The City of Goleta wishes you a fun and safe Fourth of July and encourages you to celebrate without illegal fireworks.  Watch a video message from Goleta’s Mayor Paula Perotte, Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig and Goleta Chief of Police Services Lt. Ellwood Mesa Monarch Butterfly Grove Outreach Events July 7 and 9

The City of Goleta is inviting the public to a special opportunity to see first-hand the enhancements planned for the beloved Ellwood Mesa Monarch Butterfly Grove. City staff are in the process of preparing plans and permit applications for an enhancement project. Community members are invited to come to the Butterfly Grove on Thursday evening, July 7 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. or Saturday morning, July 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to see the latest design plans and take a short walking tour of the proposed improvements. Read more...

Goleta’s Dam Dinner Returns August 20

We hope you will join us for the return of Goleta’s Dam Dinner! This year’s event will take place Saturday, August 20, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Los Carneros Dam. Due to COVID-19, this popular event had taken a hiatus, but we are thrilled to bring it back for 2022 and hope you will join us for this low-key, special gathering. Read more...

Local Decisions for Goleta on November 2022 Ballot

Voters in the City of Goleta will have a number of local decisions to make on the upcoming November 8, 2022, Ballot. At the June 21, 2022, Council meeting, the Goleta City Council approved putting before voters the election of two City Council seats, a flavored tobacco ban ordinance and a 1% Sales and Transaction Use tax measure. Read more...

New California Emergency Drought Regulations

Goleta Water District customers continue to use 20% less than before the last drought, with residents using a mere 56 gallons per person per day on average, which is far less than the State-wide average of 83 and the Central Coast regional average of 73.

Regardless, given the dire conditions across the state, the Governor’s recently adopted Emergency Drought Regulations require the District to request all of its customers voluntarily reduce water use by 20%. Read more...

Participate in Parks and Rec Month this July!

One of the best parts about living in Goleta is the number of beautiful parks, recreational opportunities, and open spaces for all to enjoy. That’s why the City is especially excited to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month which begins today, July 1. The Goleta City Council issued a proclamation at its June 21, 2022, meeting to officially recognize July as Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Goleta.
