City of Hoover Welcomes The World Games 2022

With less than a week to go until The World Games 2022 rolls into Alabama, the City of Hoover releases a video featuring Hoover residents and employees with an international background welcoming Games athletes and visitors to their City.

The 30-second clip features Hoover residents from Korea, Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, France, Germany, India, Kenya, Puerto Rico, and Japan saying “Welcome to Hoover” in their native language. It ends with Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato, who is of Italian descent, repeating the same phrase in Italian. He goes on to say, “On behalf of all of our citizens, welcome to Hoover!”

The video is featured on all City social media platforms and will be shown on the jumbotron during games at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, which is the host venue for TWG 2022 softball competitions. Those games will be played July 9th -13th. Several of the countries represented in the video will have teams participating in softball.

“The City of Hoover has one of the most diverse populations in the state. I believe that diversity is one of our strongest assets,” says Brocato. “We get the opportunity to witness the beauty of the world every day in our neighborhoods, our restaurants and businesses and in our schools, where over 50 languages are spoken. We are honored to be included in the World Games 2022 and we believe our array of diversity will help visitors feel like they aren’t so far from home.”

Old Glory Relay to Pass Through Hoover

It left Washington D.C. on May 25th, headed for Birmingham, Alabama. And the U.S. flag that will ultimately cross 31-thousand miles through 15 states will arrive in the City of Hoover next week in what is called the Old Glory Relay.

The Relay is a 44-day event in which thousands of supporters, mostly veterans will walk, ruck, run, push, and cycle the flag until it arrives in Birmingham in time for the Opening Ceremonies of the The World Games 2022.

Hoover’s portion of the Relay will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022 at Hoover City Hall when Mayor Frank Brocato will receive the U.S. flag from a representative from the City of Tuscaloosa. Mayor Brocato will then run the first leg of Hoover’s portion of the Relay as it makes its way north to Vestavia Hills City Hall.

Other participants representing Hoover include: Hoover City Council President John Lyda, the Hoover Police Department, the Hoover Fire Department, the Hoover Veterans Committee, Miss Hoover 2022, Miss Hoover’s Outstanding Teen 2022, members of the Hoover High, Spain Park, Bumpus Middle, Berry Middle and Simmons Middle softball teams, and Mr. Roy Brook, who is a well-known advocate of the U.S. Armed Services and is often seen at many community events silently holding the U.S. flag in the background.

Supporters of the Relay have been asked to gather at the Hoover Public Library to cheer on the first leg or to safely gather along Highway 31 in spots that will allow them to safely view participants as they pass by.
