CITY OF HOOVER CAREER FAIR A HUGE SUCCESS

More than two hundred job seekers turned out for the City of Hoover's Career Fair. The event was held Tuesday, June 14th at the Finley Center on the campus of the Hoover Met Complex. Many City departments were represented including engineering, police, parks and recreation and the Hoover Public Library. The City is seeking to fill roughly 60 open positions.

"We were pleasantly surprised by the turnout," says Assistant Human Resources Director, Mesha Walker.

"After COVID, career fairs as a whole, even the ones that we have partnered with and participated in, truth be told, they have not been as successful as what we saw Tuesday. In fact, a couple people from different organizations, that were surprised to see how many people showed up to our career fair were inquiring about what exactly we had done and how they could mimic some of the things we did."

Walker believes playing up the City's unique employee benefits made a big impact. For example, the City's tuition reimbursement program and the free health clinic for employees and their families. She says  other companies may have to do a similar evaluation and then find a way to communicate that to the masses.

"And if there are benefits that are not appetizing to the general public, they're going to have to go back, re-evaluate those things and find out what value they have, what sets their organization apart, what makes them unique?"

HEAT CAN'T DETER HOT ROD POWER TOUR FANS

Temperatures may have soared near triple digits Wednesday. But that didn't stop die hard fans from checking out the Hot Rod Power Tour. 15-thousand onlookers filled the parking lot of the Hoover Met Complex to marvel over more than 5-thousand hot rods and classic cars and trucks.

This is the first time the tour has been in Hoover since 2018--the fifth time overall. Every year, the event moves through different areas of the country. Last year, it featured the midwest. This year, the traveling car show began in Memphis and wound its way through Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and Georgia before ending at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday, June 17th.
