Manassas Latino Festival!

Ready to celebrate?

The annual Manassas Latino Festival kicks off September 24 from noon-7 p.m. in Historic Downtown!

Enjoy ethnic foods, drinks, music, lively dance performances, and family-fun activities in celebration of the cultural heritage and contributions of the Latin American community to the City of Manassas, the D.C. area, and to our nation.

This festival is a project of Abriendo Puertas, an organization designed for non-profit purposes with a mission to empower the Latino community to thrive, integrate, and fully participate in building a stronger inclusive society. Believing that social change is best achieved through collaboration and community empowerment, Abriendo Puertas serves as a bridge between the Latino community, non-profits, and government agencies.

Festivities will be at the Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center Street in Downtown Manassas. Entrance is free and open to the public. See you there!

Enriching lives. That's what the ARTfactory does.

Located in Historic Downtown Manassas, visitors experience art in its many forms. Stroll through the art gallery, enjoy theatre arts by Pied Piper Theatre (youth-oriented theatre), Rooftop Productions (theatre by adult performers), and Past Time Prime Time Players (performances by senior citizens). Plus, there's a menu of visual arts education, dance classes, summer camps, Arts on the Go™, and the popular SummerSounds outdoor concert series at Harris Pavilion. Programs are available for ages five and up.

Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, ARTfactory (previously known as Center for the Arts) relocated in 2002 to the old 1908 Hopkins Candy Factory building at 9419 Battle Street and has become the cornerstone of Historic Downtown's arts culture.

Hints of History

On September 2, 1945 World War II ended. That's around the time when this photo was taken in downtown Manassas.

That six-year war involved the vast majority of the world's countries with Manassas residents certainly playing a part in its victory. One Manassas hero was Claude Hall "Buck" Albrite, a Navy man, having served on the USS Alchiba transport ship. Decked in his Navy military uniform, Mr. Albrite is shown in this photo with his wife, Willie K. Albrite, "buying civilian clothes in September of 1945" in downtown Manassas.

Born in 1914 and died in 2016 at the age of 102, Mr. Albrite was a lifelong Manassas resident and successful business owner of Luck & Albrite, a plumbing and heating repair business, and Yorkshire Supply, a plumbing and electrical wholesale business, both of which were on Centreville Road. This photo of a metal sign below shows "Luck & Albrite Plumbing Inc. Est. 1945."

Mrs. Albrite preceded him in death in 2007; born in 1918, she died at the age of 89. The 1950 U.S. Federal Census lists "Willie Albrite" as married with the occupation as "Keeping House." She was a Manassas resident for 57 years.

The 1945 black-and-white photo of Mr. and Mrs. Albrite is courtesy of the Manassas Museum Online Collections; click the link below to access this online resource.
