City Of Napa Economic Development Newsletter - September 2022

Government and Politics

September 10, 2022

From: City Of Napa

Hello,

Welcome back to Napa’s monthly Economic Development newsletter!

Our September newsletter is all about making the most of the last bits of summer. Our team is proud to work with so many businesses that encompass the spirit of summer, whether that be through outdoor experiences or through their goods and services.

One of the key resources that helps make that possible is the Downtown Napa Property and Business Improvement District (PBID), which has invested so much to ensure that Napa is a thriving place for residents and visitors alike. We’re excited to highlight key funding support they’ve provided and share a project on the horizon.

We’re also showcasing Small World Restaurant, a favorite local business that began an outdoor dining setup with the onset of COVID, along with an interview with the City of Napa’s very own Mike Walker, who was instrumental in the initial (and ongoing) set up of outdoor dining programs.

I can’t think of a better time than summertime in Napa, and I hope to see our business community make the most of it!

Downtown Napa Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) Highlight

Napa is known for its charming outdoor spaces, enjoyed by both residents and tourists year-round! However, we know that a substantial amount of time, creativity, and planning go into the success of outdoor dining and shopping areas. Businesses need strategic partners – and the Downtown Napa Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) has been a key resource for local businesses over the years.

The Downtown Napa PBID, originally established in 2005, is funded through a tax assessment on Downtown Napa and Oxbow properties. From hanging flower baskets to rooftop lighting and everything in between, the PBID supports Napa businesses through strategic improvements.

When businesses were first navigating the challenges of COVID-19 in 2020, the Napa Downtown PBID allocated $140,000 in funding to the Downtown and Oxbow Parklet Grants Program. The program supported businesses with the design, development and installation of parklets or shared spaces in the downtown area. Businesses were invited to apply for reimbursable grants of $5,000 to help finance these projects, helping to alleviate a portion of the economic burden caused by COVID-19. Fun fact: PBID has funded 17 out of 18 existing parklets in Napa.

Earlier this year, the Napa City Council unanimously approved a new signage program thanks to significant financial support from the PBID. As a result of this funding, Downtown Napa will soon see updated signage that replaces outdated, deteriorating signs. Signage will help better direct visitors and improve the flow of traffic, as well as highlight the Riverfront and Oxbow districts. Our team is excited to see the many ways this enhances the Downtown experience.

This is just a quick snapshot of the many ways the Napa Downtown PBID has contributed to the good of our community. We’re thrilled about the many projects underway that will enhance the look and feel of downtown!
