Traffic Safety Updates

Signal Changes Happenings Around Town
Traffic safety is a key priority here in #Napa. The City is currently implementing some changes to our traffic signals to help keep our residents safe on the road.

We have installed larger signals with a 4th lens for a Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) at some intersections around town. When illuminated, the FYA allows waiting motorists to make a left-hand turn after yielding to oncoming traffic. Otherwise, these new traffic signals will work the same as traditional signals.

A study conducted by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program determined that drivers had fewer crashes with FYAs than with traditional yield-on-green configurations.

The City’s first FYA will launch at the intersection of Lincoln Ave and Main Street in January 2023. Later, additional FYAs will launch at the intersections of Jefferson Street and Third, Second, First and Clay Streets.

Deck the Halls Safety This Season
As you deck the halls this holiday season, keep these safety tips in mind:

- Fasten lights securely to your home or trees via hooks or nails that are insulated to avoid an electrocution or fire hazard

- Never use electric lights on metallic trees

- Check all holiday light cords to ensure they aren’t frayed or broken

- Be careful when climbing on a ladder. Make sure to have stable placement, wear shoes that allow for good traction and always have a partner close by

- Make sure live trees are fresh and prevent them from drying out

- Don’t string more than three strands of lights together per extension cord

- Don’t light fireplaces with hanging stockings or other decorations on the mantel

- Look for the fire-resistant label when buying an artificial tree

- Make sure the tree is at least three feet away from any heat source
We hope our community has happy and hazard-free holidays! Learn more holiday safety tips here.

Wrapping Paper Alternatives!
Exchanging gifts is one of the best parts of the holidays, but the waste from wrapping paper can add up! Did you know that 4.6 million pounds of wrapping paper are produced annually in the US, and approximately half of that ends up in landfills?

This holiday season, try these inexpensive and sustainable alternatives to wrapping paper.

Recyclable:
Newspaper secured with twine
Paper bags with a piece of nature such as a pine sprig or leaf
Cardboard boxes tied with decorative string

Reusable:
Old fabric with a decorative print or fun color
DIY reusable fabric bags
Old wrapping paper or bags from previous years
