Beyond the Bin: Napa's Recycling & Composting Facility Day 

Saturday, October 15th
Join us on October 15th for a guided tour of what happens to your recycling and composting once it leaves your bins/carts and comes to our facility for sorting and processing! You can select your guided tour time when registering for the event. First tour starts at 10:15 AM with the last tour leaving at 1:30 PM - with lots of times and options in between! Tours last about 45 minutes walking around the facility. It's Kid Friendly!

Napa Sanitation District and other local agencies will be present to answer any questions you have!

Please wear closed toe shoes with hard soles and clothes you do not mind possibly getting dirty. 

Bring Your Own Bucket!! We will be giving away our compost to those interested who are joining us on this day. 

This event is contingent upon the recommendations of Napa County Health Guidelines and might be cancelled due to weather and/or the COVID 19 global pandemic, if necessary.

Napa Valley College Invites the Community to “Rediscover Napa Valley College”
Community Open House: October 15

Napa Valley College (NVC) invites the community to “Rediscover Napa Valley College” at a family-friendly community open house on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Learn more about Napa Valley College’s academic programs and student services and meet the college’s new superintendent/president, Dr. Torence Powell, members of the Board of Trustees and special guests.

The open house will feature hands-on art activities, face painting, lawn games, a community mural, live performances, and a scavenger hunt, all for free! In addition, NVC’s Café and several food trucks will be onsite selling food and there will be a wine and beer garden featuring wine made by NVC students and beer from Trade Brewing.

Participate in the Monopoly-themed scavenger hunt and be entered into a special drawing to win a selection of prizes, including NVC swag, gift cards, and more. The grand prizes include a pair of 3-day general admission passes to BottleRock 2023 and an iPad Air!

In addition to NVC informational tables, community partners will be present, including OLE Health, Sheriff’s Activities League, Napa County Office of Emergency Services, COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster), Napa Valley Transportation Authority and Vine Trail Napa Valley. Children’s Museum of Napa Valley and di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art will host art activities for kids – and adults.

Get a sneak peak of “Beauty and the Beast,” which will be presented this November and is co-presented by Napa Valley College and Cafeteria Kids, and “Brand New Shoes,” Dr. Tia Madison’s original one-woman show, which will be presented in the spring, plus performances by local high schools and performing arts organizations.

“From This Moment On…Painting as a Response to Wildfire,” featuring work by adjunct professor and artist Nancy Willis, will be on view in the NVC Visual Arts Center and the “Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve” exhibition will be on view in the McCarthy Library lobby, which will also be open to the public.

Application Period Closes October 15, 2022:
Community Recovery Bank Funding

The application period is now open for the City of Napa’s Community Recovery Bank and eligible organizations and businesses are invited to apply.

Earlier this year, the City of Napa City Council directed a total of $1,150,000 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to be made available as grants, via a Community Recovery Bank, to assist with community recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Community Recovery Bank program is designed to support organizations, programs, and activities that benefit City of Napa residents and small businesses.

Organizations eligible to apply include nonprofits that are corporations, associations, agencies, or faith-based organizations with a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) nonprofit status under the Internal Revenue Service Code, as well as for-profit small businesses that meet additional eligibility requirements. All eligible applicants must serve City of Napa residents or businesses, provide proof of insurance, and be in good standing with the California Secretary of State and the California Attorney General’s Registry of Charitable Trusts, if required by law to be registered.

Available grants are available with a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $350,000 per organization.

Applicants may apply for funds from September 15, 2022, through October 15, 2022. Priority will be given to those applications which help support communities and populations most disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Award recommendations will also be reflective the Community Survey results which demonstrated high public interest in community programs to support housing assistance, homelessness services, as well as aid to for programs that support our businesses and childcare programs.

Annual Fire & Life Safety Day Returns!

10 AM - 1 PM

The Annual Fire and Life Safety Day Open House returns once again to Napa on Saturday, October 22! Join the Napa Fire Department from 10 AM - 1 PM at Fire Station 1, 930 Seminary Street, for this fun, educational event – in person!

Highlights of the event will include:

- Learn about fire safety and meet your fire department

- Tour the fire station and see what a day in the life of a firefighter is like

- See firefighters in action using the jaws of life

- Visit booths staffed by local health and safety service providers to learn how to keep your family healthy, safe, and prepared for emergenciesHave your picture taken with firefighters, fire trucks, and Sparky

- Games, activities, and more!

Visitors can also participate in the FREE Halloween Costume Exchange by bringing a gently used costume to exchange for a “new to you” costume. No donations are required to participate and choose a costume. It’s an eek-o-friendly way to give back and “respook, rewear, rescare”!
