According to the CDC, in 2020, 45,979 lives were taken by suicide in the United States.  

In honor of #SuicidePreventionAwarenessMonth in September, the City of Napa is sharing some crisis service resources:

Call for Art: Napa Dia de los Muertos  

City of Napa invites artists to participate in Napa Day of the Dead 2022! Deadline to sign up is September 16th. Artworks are open to outdoor sculptures, art installation, altars, puppets and Day of the Dead related crafts/art vendors.  

Interested participants are encouraged to submit a current work proposal or a proposal for an altar or offering honoring the life and memory of loved ones lost to display as part of the Day of the Dead celebration.

Board, Commission & Committee Openings Now Available!

Hey Napans! Do you want to make a difference in your community? Do you have expertise you could share? The City Clerk has announced new Board, Commission & Committee openings and is now accepting applications from Napa residents! 

A total of 7 openings are available: 

2 - to serve on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Advisory Committee. This committee gives advisory to City Council on matters regarding the Community Development Block Grant program.

4 - to serve on the Senior Advisory Commission, which makes recommendations to the City Council and the Parks and Recreation Services Director.

1 - to serve on the Napa County Abatement District Board, which is the Governing Body of the Mosquito Abatement District.

Napa County's Coastal Cleanup Day

Saturday, September 17 from 9 AM - 12 PM

Napa County's Coastal Cleanup Day is coming up this Saturday, September 17th, from 9 AM - 12 PM, with 20 locations to choose from!

Reduce plastic bag waste—bring your own bucket, box, or bin for litter collection. If you have reusable gloves and a trash grabber, bring those, too! 

Come on out and help #KeepNapaClean!

All ages are welcome to participate - please register in advance if possible!

National Emergency Preparedness Month

Are you ready for an emergency?

In honor of September being National Emergency Preparedness Month, we are sharing fire safety tips. To prevent a fire, remember to:

- Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling or broiling food and keep a fire extinguisher available.
- Replace all damaged or worn appliance cords to prevent fraying.
- Make sure fires are completely out before going to bed or leaving the house.
- Never use an oven or stove top to heat your home.

NapaSan Performing Sewer Line Rehabilitation September 21 - 23

NapaSan will be performing sewer line rehabilitation on Solano Avenue south of Salvador Avenue from September 21-23.  This work will take place between 9pm and 6am.  Expect detours around the work area during these hours.

FREE Tire Collection Event 

Saturday, September 17, from 9 AM - 12 PM

Do you have old tires on hand? Are you looking for a place to recycle them?

Well, you're in luck! The County of Napa and the City of American Canyon are hosting a FREE Tire Collection Event this Saturday, September 17 from 9 AM - 12 PM in the Phillip West Aquatic Center Parking Lot. 

The event will provide residents an opportunity to drop off old tires.

- Tires per vehicle are allowed, but multiple trips are welcomed.  
- Tires up to 22" and tires with rims will be accepted.
- No tires from waste tire businesses are allowed.

All Napa residents are welcome.

Welcome Our New Parks & Recreation Director: Breyana Brandt

The City of Napa is pleased to announce the hiring of Breyana Brandt as Parks & Recreation Director!

Breyana has joined the City to lead the Parks & Recreation staff in achieving departmental goals through training, mentorship, and encouraging innovation and input. She will also work collaboratively on emerging community issues, such as homelessness, and help rebuild special events and recreational programs.

She brings a wealth of knowledge in parks and recreation administration, from program and service management to parks operations and maintenance, which will be a welcome asset to the City. Before joining us, Breyana served as Parks & Recreation Director at the Town of Moraga and Assistant Recreation & Human Services Director at the City of San Leandro.

Recognizing Outstanding Performers

The City of Napa would like to recognize Jay Gelardi for his outstanding performance in the Public Works Department in 2021.  

Jay is consistent and hard-working. He continuously demonstrates dedication to team success and provides on-time repairs to vital vehicles and equipment daily. He also goes above and beyond to communicate effectively with others and work through issues. 

Jay not only has a certification to perform Basic Inspection of Terminals, but also has expertise in working on Fire Apparatus, which saves the City time and money from using outside vendors! Through his work as an Emergency Vehicle Technician, Jay is able to support Napa’s Fire Emergency Services.  

Join us in congratulating Jay for his outstanding work! 

Lane Closure: Solano Avenue from Mobile Lane to Salvador Avenue

PG&E will have a South bound closure on Solano Ave from Mobile Lane to Salvador Ave. from 9 AM to 5 PM through mid-November.

Southbound traffic on Solano will be detoured on to Hwy. 29 at Oak Knoll and back onto Solano at Salvador.
Northbound Solano will remain open at all times.
