From: City Of Ormond Beach

On September 11, 2022, the members of the Ormond Beach Fire and Police Departments will be hosting a memorial bridge walk on the Granada Bridge as a way to remember the 343 New York firefighters (FDNY), 37 Port Authority police officers, and 23 New York Police Department (NYPD) officers lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The event will begin at the staging area in front of City Hall, David Hood Plaza, on the south side of the bridge. The event will start at 8:30 a.m., with a small dedication and remembrance of the events, and the walk will begin at 8:46 a.m., coinciding with the first impact into the World Trade Center.

The route will proceed over the bridge eastbound, and continue under the bridge, through Rockefeller Garden to Fortunato Park. The walk will return westbound over the bridge, through Bailey Riverbridge Gardens, under the bridge, and end at Cassen Park and David Hood Plaza. Participants may choose to walk an additional lap of the route, finishing with a total of 3.43 miles walked, coinciding with the 343 fallen members of the FDNY. This event is expected to last approximately one hour. Water and rest stations will be located on each side of the bridge.

The public is also invited to walk and help us to honor those that sacrificed their lives on September 11, 2001.
