If you’re looking for a change to your routine in the new year, you’ve come to the right place! The Colony is growing fast, and we cannot wait for all the new locales coming this year to open their doors. #ICYMI: Tree recycling thru Jan. 8

Residents wishing to drop off their Christmas trees for recycling may do so now through Jan. 8. The tree-recycling site is at the south end of the Public Services parking lot off of East Lake Highlands Drive, across from the Animal Shelter. Signs will be posted directing residents to the site. Trees must have all lights, ornaments, tinsel and bases removed. No artificial or flocked trees. Free compost will be available sometime in the spring on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own containers. Additional compost may also be available later in the year. For information, call Environmental Services at 972-624-3131.

18th Annual Sweetheart Ball

The Colony Parks and Recreation Department will host its 18th annual Sweetheart Ball on Feb. 18 at the Cascades Events Center. Arrive in your semi-casual attire and dance the night away amid sparkling tiaras and colorful balloons. Welcoming all daddies, father figures, etc. and their little angels (ages 3-12). The Colony Upcoming Closure

City offices, facilities, and the library will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The library will be closed Jan. 14-16. There will be no delays to trash/recycling collection that week due to the holiday.

Caring for those who care for others

Many thanks to The Colony Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (TCCPAA) for its tireless support of The Colony Police Department. Members of TCCPAA took care of officers on duty over the recent holiday break, to help ensure our officers enjoyed a warm breakfast and a Merry Christmas. 

TCPL hosts author on decluttering

Join The Colony Public Library for a virtual discussion to start your new year calm and collected by learning how to become better organized and clutter-free. Dana K. White, creator of popular podcast and blog, "A Slob Comes Clean," will impart tips from her books Organizing for the Rest of Us and Decluttering at the Speed of Life. What else is In THE News?

- The City of The Colony is currently accepting applications for city boards. Board members are appointed by the City Council to serve in a volunteer capacity. Applications for board positions will be accepted in the City Secretary’s Office for vacant positions on various boards. Information on the boards and the application form are available on the city’s website.

- Extreme heat during last year's summer and ongoing dry conditions have necessitated continued implementation of Phase 1 of the City's Drought Contingency Plan (PDF). Residents are encouraged to follow a twice weekly watering schedule determined by your address. Visit www.TheColonyTx.gov/water (PDF) for more information.
