Wildwood Frozen Feet Half Marathon - 2023

January 28, 2023 - 8:00 a.m. 

LaSalle Springs Middle School

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, the City of Wildwood hosts the 13th Annual Wildwood Frozen Feet Half Marathon Trail Run. The race starts at 8:00 a.m., at LaSalle Springs Middle School (3300 Highway 109, Wildwood, Missouri 63038). Race day registrations are still being accepted.

Registration must be received on or before December 31, 2022, to be guaranteed a jacket in your size. Must be at least 14 years old on race day to enter. The run will take place regardless of weather conditions, but the City and race organizers do reserve the right to cancel, if the course is deemed too dangerous.

Bluff View Park (including the parking lot) and Rock Hollow Trail Users, including Zombie East and West!!! 

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 (Noon), all trails in these three (3) locations will be closed to host the City of Wildwood’s Frozen Feet Half-Marathon Run. Trail closures are necessary, given the number of runners participating in this event and the narrow nature of these single track trails. Please be advised of these closures and respect the runners on course. Signs will be posted on the day of the event to ensure that appropriate notice to all trail users is provided and ensure the safety of all parties. 

The trail system and Bluff View parking lot will reopen at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), on that same day, Saturday, January 28, 2023. If you should have any questions in this regard, please feel free to contact the Department of Planning and Parks at (636) 458-0440. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this regard.

Internet Access Project <+> City of Wildwood-Spectrum
UPDATE #5 - Issued on December 8, 2022

As announced in late December 2021, the City has entered into an agreement with Spectrum Mid-America LLC to design, install and operate high-speed broadband internet service for the residents of Wildwood. Completing the number one priority of the City’s five-year Strategic Plan, this partnership with Spectrum will deliver fiber-based, high-speed internet service to the unserved and underserved areas of Wildwood who have been waiting for this service for many years. The City is investing $6.75 million in this project - that come from recent federal stimulus funds - and the project is expected to be completed within twenty-four months.

The FIFTH UPDATE on the high-speed internet access project has just been issued by the City Administrator, Steve Cross, and provides great information on the project's current status. 

Dear Wildwood Resident,

The City of Wildwood is pleased to provide this fifth update to the Spectrum internet project.  This latest update now includes Maps 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 depicting the remaining areas where Spectrum has notified the City that construction will begin for Phase 1. This update also includes the map entitled Total Project Area which denotes the entire project area for Phase 1 of the buildout as well as where each of the 16 maps falls within the total project area.  Please note that these maps are an approximation of the buildout area and may not exactly depict the boundaries of where construction begins and ends.  If you have a question as to whether your street address is included in the buildout area, please send an email to Steve Cross at the email address noted below.  The home address is the key determinant as to which area of the Phase 1 buildout your home may be in.  

Please also note that this project, to bring high-speed internet to the City of Wildwood, will be accomplished in two phases. Phase 1 encompasses approximately 2,025 homes in the area noted on the map as the Total Project Area.  Construction on Phase 1 began in September 2022 and is currently anticipated to be completed by the end of December 2023.  Phase 2 is anticipated to begin shortly after the completion of Phase 1.   If you are uncertain as to whether your home is included in Phase 1, please notify Steve Cross.  If it is determined that your address is not included in Phase 1, your address will be added to the list of addresses that will encompass Phase 2.  If your address is not included in Phase 1, please note that you must notify the City of your address no later than May 31, 2023 to ensure that your address is included in Phase 2.  Unfortunately, any requests received after May 31, 2023 to include your address will not be included in Phase 2 of the internet buildout.

As with any project of similar scope, this timeframe is subject to change due to unforeseen construction delays. The City will make every effort to update residents as to any changes in this schedule.

If you click on this box, you will be able to enter your name, street address and email address to receive a direct email of each update when it is distributed.  If you do not have access to the City’s website, please feel free to send your information via email to [email protected] and the City will make sure your name gets added to the list.  Updates will also be included in the weekly E-Newsletter (e-newsletter signup), as well as being posted on the City’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter social media sites, and we will include a link to the Internet Access Project Updates page on the website for you to sign up for the email updates.

Finally, these updates will also be available in print, and they will be posted on the wall in the second-floor vestibule of City Hall, as well as at the City’s Al Foster, Community, Bluff View, Anniversary and Green Pines Parks. 

We are very excited that we are now able to move forward with the City’s most important strategic goal for our residents. This project will take up to 24 months to complete, but at the end of this time period, every resident in Wildwood should have access to reliable, high-speed internet for their homes and businesses.

City Council Passes New Fence Regulations

Probably, one (1) of the more constructed improvements to lots of all kinds are fences. Recently, the City Council passed new regulations in the City's Zoning Ordinance to address these structures, given the many new types, materials, sizes, and characteristics of them, including locations. The intent of these new regulations are to protect the character of Wildwood that everyone enjoys and appreciates, while not making them a too great of intrusion to our residents. Tree Preservation and Management Practices in Wildwood

With Fall around the corner, many property owners are out in their yards/lots and doing clean-up and new plantings. If you are removing a tree or trees, the City does have regulations to protect "grand" types. These trees are those types that have grown to significant sizes. To ensure that a "Grand" tree is not removed, before inspection, the City asks that the property owner contact the Department of Planning and arrange a same or next-day inspection and authorization. It's easy and quick! Watershed Erosion Task Force

The Watershed Erosion Task Force (WETF) met on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 and heard presentations from the Study Leader with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and two (2) consultants under contract with the City. These presentations focused on the Caulks Creek Watershed Study and then retrofitting certain stormwater basins for better function in locations determined to best suited to assist in improved management of runoff from storms. 

The Watershed Erosion Task Force supported the concept of basin retrofits and authorized further action on them will forthcoming.

Caulks Creek Watershed

The City of Wildwood's Watershed Erosion Task Force (WETF) has been seeking assistance from any and all sources to help it in understanding the extent of problems that many of the City's nine (9) watersheds are experiencing, with the intent that, once the causes of these problems are known, solutions can be developed for them. To this end, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) began a two (2) year long study of Caulks Creek on February 14, 2022. The study is intended to profile the damage in the creek, understand the unpredictable dynamics of storm events upon the creek, author potential solutions, and report on all of it to the community. Such a study will be a template for the other watersheds that define Wildwood in terms of approaches to preserve them, as well as across the country. The scientists from this agency have been in Caulks Creek several times, since February, working on the identification of its characteristics and collecting data to better understand flows, volumes, and other characteristics of the runoff that reaches it, after storm events. Public WiFi is available at Wildwood City Hall. The Network Name is Wildwood/Guest and no password is required. This service will improve your ability to access agenda items during meetings on your smartphone or other WiFi-enabled device.

Other Options: The City continues to define other options for internet service, which are identified below, while Spectrum, the Wildwood's selected contractor, brings high-speed internet to the underserved and unserved areas of the community.

- Bays ET – Fiber-to-the-Home (only to certain areas – Hawks Rest, Homestead Estates at Wildwood, and Shiloh Subdivisions)

- Wisper Internet – Fixed wireless network service (original)

- AT&T Wireless – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use

- AT&T – Non-mobile option, where property owner or subdivision compensates provider for extension of fiber optic or T1 Business Line to location(s). Dr Rambaud can provide more background and authored an e-mail in this regard.

- Verizon – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use

- T-Mobile/Sprint – Mobile communication provider – Hotspot Use

- Other Mobile Providers – Mobile communication providers, i.e., Mint Mobile, Metro, Cricket, etc. – Hotspot Use

- Satellite – Different providers

- Spectrum (Charter Communications)

- Wildwood Workspaces – 16759 Main Street, Suite 205 (co-working spaces for internet needs)

- Starlink - In the meantime, the discussions relating to the Starlink option for access to high-speed internet continue in many areas of the country. Although not fiber-to-the-home (FTTP), this service may be able to provide a bridge over an extended time gap that currently exist and could continue, until better options are available, as noted above regarding the City’s agreement with a provider of this essential service. Park Projects Update - January 27, 2023

The City has been making progress on two (2) park projects this winter, given the relatively mild temperatures. These projects are summarized below:

- Pedestrian Bridge and Trails - Located between the Manors at the Meadows of Cherry Hills and the Enclaves at Cherry Hills Subdivisions, this small pedestrian bridge and two (2), short trail segments are under construction and will allow residents from a number of surrounding subdivisions to have a new, convenient route to run, walk, hike, or ride, without having to access all of Manchester Road for their fun.

- Bluff View Park - Major improvements to make this scenic 100 acre park more accessible and family friendly are nearing completion. New shelters have been added, along with improvements to the parking lot, while increasing landscaping and improving access to the scenic bluff. Work is anticipated to be completed by March 2023.

Over the next five (5) years, the Mayor and City Council will be relying on its Strategic Plan to make decisions regarding this community. The plan was developed by the Mayor and City Council over the course of a number of months and offers insights into the priorities of the City and where funds will be targeted and allocated in the future. State Rights-of-Way from Coffee with Mayor

State Route 100 and State Route 109 are maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation. These roadways are key arterial in the City of Wildwood and carry high volumes of traffic. If you see a problem or maintenance need along them, the Missouri Department of Transportation has a "Report a Road Concern" link that works very well. Lift Ticket Limitations.

- Lift tickets will be limited every day, across every resort, during the 2022/23 Winter Season in order to preserve the guest experience at each resort.

- Availability of lift tickets will be visible on resort websites. If tickets are sold out online, guests will not be able to purchase them at ticket windows.  

Safety Protocols.

- Vail Resorts will not require face coverings, vaccines or dining reservations this coming season across its resorts.

- With safety as its top priority, the company will continue to monitor the changing dynamics of the pandemic, but at this time does not plan to have any of these measures in place.

- Employees will continue to complete daily health screenings and resorts will still apply enhanced cleaning practices.

Fourteen (14) Wildwood Businesses are Participating 

The City of Wildwood has an exciting program that creates new and additional traffic for local businesses, while continuing to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for the community. Biking and Walking Benefits is a year-round national program in more than 100 communities across the United States that promotes active mobility through discounts/rewards to cyclists and walkers that visit local businesses. 

The program is very simple - individuals purchase a $5.00 helmet sticker from participating businesses and after biking or walking to a participating business, present the sticker to receive their discount/reward. If you already have a sticker from another community, just present it at a participating Wildwood business, and be sure to use your sticker to receive discounts at other area businesses. 

Lauren Edens, Ward 2 Council Member and the Chair of the Economic Development Committee of the Wildwood City Council, said, “this program fits perfectly with our culture and outdoor infrastructure, including our extensive trail and sidewalk network.”

Welcome to Wildwood, Missouri

Wildwood, Missouri is a unique, progressive community that is set in a magnificent natural environment, which features dense woodlands, rolling hills, beautiful valleys, lush meadows ,and crystal clear streams. 

Located in West St. Louis County, just a 30 minute drive from downtown St. Louis, Wildwood is a historic community dedicated to its Master Plan, which provides for the preservation of its rural areas, while offering opportunities for residential and commercial growth. State, County and City Parks cover over 11 of the 68 square miles that forms Wildwood's municipal boundaries. The City is served by the AAA-rated Rockwood School District, St. Louis Community College at Wildwood, and has numerous recreational options as well, including an extensive trail and bikeway system, a popular snow ski/tubing and zipline resort, and a prominent equestrian community.

Wildwood incorporated on September 1, 1995; however, the community’s remarkable history does not begin there, The long and rich history of the local settlements has defined this area for many generations. The early settlements of Centaur, Fox Creek, Glencoe, Grover, Hollow, Kelpe, Melrose, Monarch, Orrville, Pond and Westland Acres continue to be discoverable today. Markers provide a brief historicity of these areas for adventurers intrigued by the past. Beyond these unique settlements, the ever-popular Historic Route 66 thoroughfare (now called Manchester Road) bisects Wildwood’s north from south, directly through the heart of the town center. This portion of Route 66 is the original location of the byway, dating back to the early 1930s.  Come on out and take a nostalgic ride down old Route 66, and stay awhile and enjoy all the exciting things to do in Wildwood.

Lafayette Older Adults Program

Adventures and Fun Await!

If you are at least 55 years old, this program is a great way to become involved! The Lafayette Older Adults Program consists of a total of six (6) municipalities and two (2) school districts that partner together to make this program a wonderful success. senior yoga class ... The details

All sessions are now in-person You must register one (1) day in advance of the class date that you choose to attend.

The in-person classes will be held at Wildwood Yoga and Wellness’s new location at 2642 Highway 109, Suite B, in Wildwood.

These classes are FREE for Wildwood residents, and only $5.00 for non-residents, age 60+! 

Tuesday’s Class: Senior Chair Yoga (Restore Practice)

Using a chair or a completely supported posture, this practice will target mobility and flexibility of both the body and the mind.  With a strong focus on the breath and gentle movement, this practice will explore qualities of a restorative (restful) practice, a yin (longer-holding) practice, and yoga Nidra (guided meditation).

Friday’s Class: Senior Slow Flow Yoga

A meditative flow based on a steady, rhythmic breath, and traditional yoga postures.  The flow will incorporate mindful, smooth transitions and holds designed to open the body and the mind. This practice will build strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, and confidence and is ideal for practitioners that are comfortable standing.

The City of Wildwood is pleased to offer a Park and Trail Memorial Program intended for residents to honor and commemorate the memory of a loved one or close friend. The City is offering three (3) different options that can be placed in a number of different active or passive park/trail locations in the City. St. Louis county election board

Election Judges Needed for 2023   

In the upcoming April 4, 2023, General Municipal Election in St. Louis County, voters will be choosing candidates and deciding on ballot issues for various public entities. Election Judges and Student Election Judges are needed to administer such elections in Missouri.  

The St. Louis County Election Board is accepting applications for people who are interested in serving as Election Judges for the April 4, 2023, Election. Additionally, the Election Board has an excellent High School Student Program that gives students an opportunity to work with veteran Election Judges providing hands on experience in learning how elections are conducted. 

Election Judges play a pivotal role in making it possible for citizens to rightfully exercise the franchise on Election Day. A typical election may have approximately 65% of voters cast ballots on Election Day at over 200 polling places across St. Louis County.  Election Judges set up the voting equipment at the polling location, manage the voting process, and secure the ballots for collection at the Election Board. They are truly the “backbone” of the electoral process.

Election Judges are awarded a financial stipend of $280 for their service. Students may receive a stipend of $170 or earn 16 community service hours.  

Serving as an Election Judge gives citizens a chance to perform an important civic duty and allows them to actively participate in their community.
