Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra News - June 14, 2022

From: Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra

Inspired by “The Souls of Black Folk” by W.E.B. Dubois, Sorrow Songs was written by Claflin Hill's principal oboist Sachiko Murata.

I'd like to introduce you to CHSO's principal oboist, Sachiko Murata.

At our November concert, Claflin Hill premiered her original work, Sorrow Songs. (We had planned to perform this piece during the 20th season, but, well... we know what happened in March of 2020.)

The program We Now Return To Symphony seemed like the perfect opportunity to share this beautiful piece.

The unique thing about Claflin Hill musicians is their personal connection to other CHSO musicians, the community, and our goal to make this part of the world more beautiful through music.

Shachiko shared the following message shortly after the premiere.

I didn't realize until entering the church, and I immediately thought about your speech at the concert. One of the themes of the concert was, 'Remembrance.'

"Wow! You are brilliant, Paul!"

So many conductors miss the important opportunity/task of communicating with their audience. You are not one of them. I really appreciate what you do.

It is to make connections/realizations/bridges between their/our daily lives and the music the CHSO plays. That's why people keep coming back to listen to the CHSO concerts.

Thank you very much for the explanation of "Sorrow Songs." It was just perfect. You made me realize a different aspect of the music as well.

We are musicians/artists. We just keep aiming for a goal that we can never ever achieve. We just need to keep running to catch mirage.

Thank you very much for putting your passion and soul into Sorrow Songs.

Playing with The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra is so much more than a gig to our musicians. Claflin Hill IS their family.

Please consider making a donation to our Annual Appeal to support our program, our musicians, and keep music strong and vibrant for the community.
