Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends First Judicial District Candidates to Governor Walz

[ST. PAUL, MN] – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today that it is recommending three candidates for consideration to fill a vacancy in Minnesota’s First Judicial District. The vacancy occurred upon the retirement of the Honorable Kevin F. Mark. The seat will be chambered in Red Wing in Goodhue County.

Nicole Broderick: Nicole Broderick is a solo practitioner primarily practicing family law. She was previously a partner at Gorman & Broderick, PLC, and a part-time contract public defender in Goodhue County, where she handled child protection, paternity, contempt, and truancy matters. Broderick’s community involvement includes providing pro bono representation through Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services. She has also volunteered for several local nonprofit organizations and the Red Wing Public School District.

Adam Johnson: Adam Johnson is the deputy county administrator for Rice County, where he serves as a legal advisor to the county administrator and the county board on a wide variety of civil and operational matters. He previously served as the chief assistant for the Rice County Attorney’s Office, where he was primarily responsible for criminal prosecution of felonies including domestic assault, criminal sexual conduct, and murder. His community involvement includes serving as president of Worthington Dollars for Scholars and volunteering with?Feed My Starving Children and?Volunteers Enlisted to Aid People (VEAP). He is also the?Fifth District Bar Association representative to the Minnesota State Bar Association and a mock trial judge with the American Mock Trial Association.

Tori Stewart: Tori Stewart is an assistant county attorney in Dakota County, where she prosecutes?felony-level crimes including murder, assault, criminal sexual conduct, child physical abuse, criminal vehicular operation, and domestic-related offenses. She was previously an assistant county attorney in Rice County, where she prosecuted all levels of criminal offenses, and an associate attorney at Hughes & Costello.?Her community involvement has included serving on the Minnesota DWI Task Force,?the Dakota County Attorney’s Office Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Alliance, the Minnesota County Attorney’s Association Impaired Driving Educational Alliance, and the Minnesota State Bar Association Public Law Section’s Executive Council. She also volunteered as a mock trial judge with the?Minnesota High School Mock Trial?Program.
