Cupertino City Council Approves Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023

The Cupertino City Council approved the City’s budget for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-2023 during a Special City Council Meeting on Thursday, June 9.

“We passed a balanced budget, on time, and we’re getting many amazing things done for the City of Cupertino,” said Mayor Darcy Paul. “I’m proud of our community, I’m proud of our staff, and I’m proud of my Council colleagues for working together to help us bring forward many projects and efforts that help our residents, and that help Cupertino, work to address needs in every area.”

The approved FY 22-23 budget has a total operating budget of $127,105,125 and includes:

- $95,167,779 in the City’s General Fund

- $736,500 in City Work Program (CWP)

- $69,461 in Community Funding Grant Program

- 14 new staff positions

“I am pleased and appreciative that our City Council approved a balanced budget,” said City Manager Jim Throop. “The City’s fiscal outlook remains strong, despite various challenges, and with this budget, we have a stable financial foundation to continue serving our residents and the Cupertino community now and into the future.”

In addition to passing the FY 22-23 budget, Council also approved the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget at $3,482,000. Some of the projects included in the City’s FY 22-23 budget and CIP budget are:

- Blackberry Farm Golf Course Renovation/Alternative Use Study

- Community Engagement on Alternative Transportation and Parking

- Cupertino Store Implementation

- De Anza Boulevard Bike Lanes Project

- Homeless Jobs Program

- Jollyman All-Inclusive Play Area: Adult-Assistive Bathroom Facilities Project

- Memorial Park Ponds Repurposing Project Contract
