SPARTA, NJ In addition to their walk-a-thon and annual gala, Durga Tree International has added unique Do-It-Yourself events to their fundraising model. These DIY fundraisers are for supporters who want to individually raise money for Durga Tree in order to combat human trafficking. These fundraisers can be anything from painting parties and karaoke to donating proceeds from services or goods. Beth Tiger, Executive Director of Durga Tree Int'l said, "We believe one of the foundations of Durga is our special community where people use their own passions and interests to benefit Durga." In December, local NJ resident Sam Alleva, a teen supporter attending Lenape Valley Regional High School, chose to donate her 16th birthday party. In lieu of gifts, she requested donations be made to Durga Tree and raised $1682.00. Durga Tree assists individuals in this process by providing a personalized fundraising platform online which makes the process easy and streamlined for both the fundraiser and donor. There is an upcoming DIY fundraiser at Riccio Salon in Mahwah on Feb. 23. Information can be found on Durga Tree's Friends for Freedom page - http://durgatreeinternational.org/friends-for-freedom.
At almost three years old, this collaborative non-profit organization, co-created by Beth and Tim Tiger and Jess Hoertel, has raised over $300,000 to aid in the war against Modern Slavery. As a project driven non-profit organization, they work with grassroot organizations around the world who are on the ground actively working to end this epidemic. Durga Tree International's mission is to "take the homework out of becoming involved in this movement by qualifying hardworking, worthy organizations from around the world, and then becoming the fundraising vehicle they so desperately need."
Additional Durga Tree International events are planned for 2016, including the thirdannual Lacing Up For Freedom Walk-a-Thon in May 2016, volunteer immersion trips to Guatemala and India, and the fourth annual benefit gala in October 2016.
