HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 13, 2022 – Dr. Racquel Ingram, founding chair of High Point University’s Department of Nursing, has been elected to serve as the next chair of the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Her one-year appointment starts on Jan. 1, 2023.

Ingram’s peers on the NCBON elected her to this position based on her committee leadership, service and other nursing-related experiences or qualifications. She currently serves as vice chair of the NCBON.

“Serving as chair of the North Carolina Board of Nursing is truly an honor,” says Ingram. “Having favor from such an esteemed group leaves me at a loss for words. Knowing that North Carolina nurses and other related officials are counting on me to lead the board is something that I don't take lightly.”

Ingram has chaired and served on several NCBON committees, assisted with regulatory processes, and participated in the development and accomplishment of strategic planning outcomes.

“Dr. Ingram models each day what it means to lead a life of significance through her work in and out of the classroom,” says Dr. Kevin Ford, dean of HPU’s Congdon School of Health Sciences. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments serving the NCBON and look forward to her inspiring and leading the next generation of exceptional nurses.”  

Ingram hopes her nursing students will be inspired by her actions as founding chair of the Department of Nursing and through her leadership on the NCBON. She also hopes students will be inspired by her departmental colleagues as they model the behaviors of excellent practitioners and nurse leaders.

“I want HPU nursing students to understand the importance of the Nursing Practice Act and other regulatory specifications regardless of the state they choose to practice in,” says Ingram. “Students are the future of nursing practice, and we should lead and guide them accordingly.”

HPU’s Department of Nursing welcomed its inaugural cohort of students this fall to learn inside a completely renovated, 50,000-square-foot nursing complex at HPU’s Parkway Commons. The complex includes a 16-bed skills lab with 14 diverse simulators modeling an acute care environment, as well as three high-fidelity simulation suites – adult health nursing, maternal-newborn nursing and pediatric nursing.
