From Our President

Welcome to the July issue of the Friends of the Ames Free Library Newsletter. As it usually does, summer is passing quickly. If you have not already gone on a vacation or if you are having a staycation this year, visit the Friends Book Room at Queset House to purchase summer reading material. We offer an extensive collection of books from which to choose. Paperback books fit into your luggage easily and are inexpensive. If you have returned from a restful vacation, stop in to replace the books you have read.

Whether you are traveling a great distance or staying locally, I suggest that you find time to make a visit to a local library. As we all know from spending time in our wonderful Ames Free Library, libraries are fascinating places. I have visited a few libraries during my travels, including those in Middlebury, Vermont; Greenville, Maine; Arlington, Virginia; the Library of Congress; and my childhood library-the Boston Public Library. Unfortunately, I did not take any photos. Fortunately, our newsletter editor, Sylvia, took photos during her visit to a library in Troy, New York. As you can see from her photos, libraries have unique architectural features and interesting stories and are well worth a visit.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and stay safe and well!
