African Music and Arts Village

Experience African music and culture with South African recording artist Baba Shibambo! Our African Music and Arts Village is a series of interactive programs introducing the cultural traditions of South Africa through indigenous music, storytelling and dance. Your journey begins with an all-ages Opening Concert on Monday, June 5, from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Main Library, featuring traditional African instruments. Then, throughout the week, you can try your hand at playing several of those instruments, including djembes, marimbas, and shakers, at Baba Shibambo's hands-on workshops for adults, teens, and kids at all four library locations. Registration is required for these workshops. The celebration comes full circle with a Finale Concert at the Main Library on Sunday, June 11, from 2-3 PM, where workshop participants will be invited to perform on stage with Baba Shibambo! These programs celebrate cultural diversity and the importance of working together in harmony while having fun. Become part of our village as we celebrate the rhythms and harmonies that hold traditional societies together.
