Live @ the Library: Driftwood Quintet Presents Suite del Ángel

Award-winning accordionist Gabe Hall-Rodrigues joins Driftwood Quintet on Monday, November 14, from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Main Library to bring to life Astor Piazzolla’s hauntingly beautiful suite of pieces depicting an angel’s journey to save a small town in Buenos Aires. Paired with Piazzolla will be a number of works arranged for reed quintet from some of Latin America’s most influential composers, including Arturo Marquez’s thrilling Danzon No. 2 and Teresa Carreño’s lush String Quartet in B Minor.

Native American Drum Circle

Play an authentic handmade frame drum and powwow drum, learn a Cherokee welcome song, and dance using hoops at this hands-on experience of Native American drumming, dancing and singing on Sunday, November 6, from 2-4 PM at the Foothills Library. All instruments will be provided. No musical experience is necessary and everyone is welcome.

This program will be facilitated by Dr. Lydia A. Woods, a retired college professor of African-Native American heritage and the founder and CEO of Drum Arizona Inc.

“Swingin' in the Park” Concert

The AZ Swing Kings Jazz Orchestra is a 19-piece big band directed by Lenny King, founder and former leader of the Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. Jazz singers Sherry Roberson and Vito Maynes will perform authentic swing and jazz classics of the Big Band Era in this outdoor concert for all ages on Thursday, November 3, from 7-9 PM at the Velma Teague Library (E. Lowell Rogers Amphitheatre in Murphy Park). Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food will be available for purchase.

Glendale 100: 1920s Ribbon Flowers

Let's go back to the 1920s and make rosette ribbon flowers on Saturday, November 12, from 2-3 PM at the Heroes Regional Park Library! Both historical and very cute, these flowers were worn on the shoulder or at the waist as a dress accessory. They are beautiful little pieces of art that even a sewing novice can create.
