Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for December 2022

A Note from Library Director Allison Gray:

Welcome to the December issue of the Reading Corner! 2022 was an exciting year for the Goleta and Santa Ynez Valley Libraries. Some of our most memorable highlights include:

Thanks to California State Library, we now offer free access to many wonderful websites that would normally cost a fee or subscription to use (i.e. New York Times online).

Began featuring online author talks bi-weekly.

Continue to hold craft programs for all ages, providing the necessary materials.

Our children's program attendance has soared! 1,400 people visited our Star Wars Day event and our Summer Stuffed Animal Sleepover was a front-page story in the Washington Post

We promise to make 2023 even more exciting!

As a reminder regarding Holiday closures the Goleta Valley, Buellton, Solvang libraries, and the Isla Vista Bookvan will be closed on December 24th, 25th and 31st, and on January 1st.

Happy Holiday Reading to all our patrons!

Library Director

If you’ve visited Goleta Valley Library recently and been greeted by a friendly staff member with a trademark cowboy hat and quick-witted sense of humor, you may have met Library Technician Craig Clevenger. As the moderator of the monthly Mystery Book Club, founder of the Writers’ Workshop, and a published author, Craig provides top-notch programs for readers who enjoy discussing suspenseful thrillers and for adults and teens looking to develop their skills as writers. Through the generous support of the Friends of the Goleta Valley Library, he has curated a special collection of resources for writers of all genres called the Writers’ Corner. Located just inside the front entrance of the library, this collection features the works of guests at previous Writers’ Workshop sessions as well as useful guides for writers of all experience levels. Craig also works behind-the-scenes to facilitate the library’s online Author Talks and the upcoming Semi-Annual Live Poetry Series, which will debut on December 11th at 2:00 p.m. Craig’s earnest commitment to providing high quality public service shines through in all his work, and Goleta Valley Library is proud to call Craig a member of our team!
