LANSING, Mich. – During Rivalry Week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II issued competing proclamations declaring October 24 through October 29 after their respective alma maters. Governor Whitmer declared this week as Go Green! Week, while Lt. Governor Gilchrist chose Go Blue! Week ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.

“Few Michigan traditions are more treasured than watching the Spartans and Wolverines battle for the Paul Bunyan trophy,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “I hope every Michigander will gather with friends and family and break out the green and white or maize and blue. Unfortunately, University of Michigan’s undefeated streak will come to an end under the lights of the Big House this Saturday, because Tuck Comin’. Go green!”

“It’s a great week for the Wolverines to reclaim the Paul Bunyan trophy,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. “I can’t wait to watch the Leaders and Best build on our conference-leading win streak and bring Paul back to Ann Arbor, where he belongs. Go Blue!”

Saturday’s 7:30PM football game marks the 115th meeting between the Michigan State University Spartans and the University of Michigan Wolverines. Although Michigan leads the head-to-head series overall 71-38-5, Michigan State has won 10 of the last 14 matchups.

While the Whitmer-Gilchrist Administration is a house divided, both Governor Whitmer and Lt. Governor Gilchrist agree that every Michigander can unite against Ohio State University.
