Governor thanks state agencies for efforts during snowstorm

Gov. Doug Burgum expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), North Dakota Highway Patrol, State Radio and other state agencies that worked to serve citizens and keep motorists safe through last week's snowstorm that shut down highways and brought businesses and schools to a standstill in some areas.

The storm began Tuesday in south-central North Dakota with heavy snow bands that spread across to the southeast portion of the state. The storm remained across the south-central and southeast area into Wednesday, causing the greatest impacts to the Bismarck, Jamestown, Valley City and Fargo areas.

Over the course of the two-day event, the Bismarck, Valley City and Fargo NDDOT districts worked 2,700 hours operating 135 snowplows, 19 blowers and two motor graders.

"We're grateful to the Department of Transportation and all of our state agencies and team members working through challenging conditions to keep motorists safe and continue serving the public," Burgum said. "With additional snow in this week's forecast, citizens are encouraged to be prepared and alert to current road conditions when traveling."

During winter weather events, NDDOT reminds motorists to have an emergency kit packed and visit travel.dot.nd.gov for the latest road condition information, or download the free ND Roads app from their app store. Helpful information also is available by following the NDDOT and Highway Patrol on Facebook and Twitter.

Lt. Gov. Miller addresses MHA Nation appreciation luncheon, highlights progress on tribal-state collaboration

"It’s been roughly six years since Gov. Burgum made tribal engagement one of this administration’s five strategic initiatives," Miller said. "We are pleased to say that the state’s partnership and working relationship with MHA Nation – and all five of the tribal nations with whom we share geography – has never been stronger."

Miller cited several examples of progress, including a historic compact with MHA for sharing oil and gas tax revenue; updated comprehensive agreements to enhance child welfare services for children and families of MHA and the other tribes headquartered in North Dakota; agreements with MHA and Spirit Lake to provide mutual aid across reservation boundaries; memorandums of agreement between the North Dakota National Guard and all five tribal colleges, making a State Tuition Assistance program available to qualified student service members attending college; a memorandum of understanding with North Dakota Information Technology for managed cybersecurity services; and recently approved tribal-state gaming compacts.

The North Dakota Office of Indian Affairs will host the fifth Strengthening Government to Government Partnerships and Relationships Conference June 21-22 at the Bismarck Event Center. Free registration will open in mid-April.

Governor promotes North Dakota-made products with Pride of Dakota proclamation

Gov. Burgum has proclaimed March as “Pride of Dakota Month” in the state, encouraging North Dakotans to recognize the state’s food industry and show their appreciation for those who produce and process food.

Now in its 38th year, the Pride of Dakota program helps North Dakota businesses develop and expand domestic and foreign markets for their products. Pride of Dakota, a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, has over 500 active and associate members.
