SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has named Coral Sanchez to fill the Third District Court vacancy left by Judge Su Chon's retirement. Sanchez’s nomination requires confirmation by the Utah Senate.

“Coral Sanchez brings a wealth of experience to the bench,” Gov. Cox said. “The people of Utah will benefit from her expertise and we appreciate her interest in serving our community in this new role.”

Currently, Sanchez serves as the Davis County Attorney’s Office division chief supervising the Special Victims Unit. In addition, she supervises the director of the Children’s Justice Center in Davis County and acts as a liaison between the County Attorney, County Commission, and Attorney General’s Office with respect to budgetary and operational issues related to the Children’s Justice Center.

Prior to her current role, Sanchez was an attorney at The Law Office of Bobby Udall. She also served as deputy county attorney in the Davis County Attorney’s Office handling cases of child physical and sexual abuse, child homicide, adult sexual assault, and domestic violence cases. She was also a prosecutor in the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, the Special Victims Unit chief in the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, a deputy district attorney in the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office and an associate city prosecutor in the Salt Lake City Prosecutor’s Offic

Since 2018, she has been adjunct faculty at the Law Enforcement Academy at Salt Lake Community College. In 2019, Sanchez was awarded the Utah Crime Victims Council's Prosecutor of the Year. In 2006, she was awarded the Trial Attorney of the Year, Salt Lake City Prosecutor’s Office.

Sanchez received a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Southern California and a J.D. from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.
