HELENA, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today praised Superintendent of Yellowstone National Park Cam Sholly for the accelerated reopening of the park through Gardiner and Cooke City/Silver Gate in October 2022.

“Superintendent Sholly and I have been in regular contact since flooding began, and he understands the livelihood of Montanans in Gardiner, Cooke City, and Silver Gate depends on these entrances reopening,” Gov. Gianforte said. “I’m grateful to him and his team for this accelerated timeline for reopening, and continue to offer the state’s support as our gateway communities recover and rebuild.”

This morning, Yellowstone National Park announced both the North Entrance road through Gardiner and the Northeast Entrance road through Cooke City and Silver Gate are scheduled to reopen in October 2022 through short-term reconnections.

The National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration are assessing the timeline for the permanent reconstruction of both entrance roads.

Since flooding began, Montana Department of Transportation officials and private contractors have worked to repair and reopen damaged roadways which provide access to Yellowstone’s gateway communities. On June 23, the governor announced the reopening of US Highway 89 to Gardiner. On July 22, the governor celebrated the reopening of the Beartooth Highway.
