HPU Students Host a Special Valentine’s Day Dance

Who: High Point University’s Student Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and High Point Parks and Recreation’s ASPIRE unit are cohosting a special Valentine’s Day dance for community members with disabilities. Media are invited to attend.

What: Annual ASPIRE Valentine’s Day dance

When: Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center, 101 Price Street in High Point

Why: The Special Pops Dances have been held for more than 16 years to connect with the community and show support to individuals with disabilities. The event will include music, dancing, games, crafts and activities for all ages.

“The dances are so important to create a community that is inclusive and open to individuals of varying abilities,” says Sarah Geller, a sophomore majoring in special education. “High Point has such a rich sense of community, and the special pops dances help keep the community a unified place for all.”

The CEC hosts three dances throughout the academic year during Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
