HPU to Host 12th Annual Veterans Day Celebration

Each year, HPU students honor the veterans in attendance with a celebratory welcome and a special gift.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 10, 2022 – High Point University will honor hundreds of men and women who have served our nation during the 12th Annual Veterans Day Celebration. The event will be held at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. Featured speakers include HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein and Dean Cain, star of “The New Adventures of Superman” and HPU’s Actor in Residence.

The event is free and open to all veterans and community members who wish to honor the men and women who have served our nation. To pre-register, visit www.highpoint.edu/veteransday or call Campus Concierge at 336-841-4636.

The program will include a complimentary breakfast, a patriotic salute and will recognize students leading initiatives to support veterans. The North Carolina Brass Band and the HPU Chamber Singers will provide patriotic music. HPU students will honor veterans with a celebratory welcome and a special gift.

As is tradition at the annual event, HPU will continue to donate approximately 100 American flags to local nonprofits, schools and government buildings.

In addition, the new Qubein Arena and Conference Center features several patriotic displays that celebrate HPU’s God, family and country values for veterans to enjoy.

“At High Point University, we celebrate our values as a God, family and country school,” says HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein. “It is our honor to recognize the brave men and women who have fought for our freedoms and liberties that we enjoy. Through this event, we hope to show the veterans our appreciation, respect and dedication to patriotism.”

This year, Afghanistan war veteran Redmond Ramos will speak at HPU’s Annual Veterans Day celebration. He ended his deployment in Afghanistan as a Navy Corpsman attached to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. During this time, he stepped on an IED while providing cover and support for another injured team member. He was forced to amputate his leg if he ever wanted to run again. This incident changed his entire life, and he now lives by a philosophy of “Success through Struggle.” After losing his leg, he has continually found opportunities to thrive. He joined TMF’s veteran transition program after leaving the military and is currently pursuing his dream of becoming a motivational speaker. His ultimate goal is to help and inspire others. You can read more of his story here.

HPU’s Annual Veterans Day Celebration is supported by the Sheriff Family Veterans Awareness Endowment, the MJ Hall and Jay Stobbs Leadership in Military and Veterans Awareness Endowment, D.H. Griffin Construction and River Landing at Sandy Ridge.

This year, a student essay contest will honor retired Brigadier Gen. Norman “Snapper” C. Gaddis, a U.S. Air Force officer who was commissioned in the Army-Air Corps in World War II and served in the newly formed Air Force during the Korean War and in the Vietnam War.
