HIGH POINT, N.C., Sept. 9, 2022 – High Point University has been named the No. 1 Best Regional College in the South for 11 years in a row by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges.” In the 2023 edition, HPU also is named the No. 1 Most Innovative Regional College in the South for the eighth consecutive year and is recognized in several special categories.

In the 2023 list, HPU ranks:

-No. 1 Best Regional College in the South for 11 consecutive years

-No. 2 Best Undergraduate Teaching

HPU is recognized for:

-National Top 30 Learning Communities (No. 22)
-National Top 30 Best First-Year Experiences (No. 28)

“At HPU, we have completely transformed our campus and created an environment of excellence, and we appreciate rankings such as these that honor our upward trajectory,” says HPU President Dr. Nido Qubein. “As The Premier Life Skills University, we also remain laser-focused on the success of our graduates and committed to preparing students for the world as it will be.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are among a long list of honors HPU has received. In August, The Princeton Review named HPU in “The Best 388 Colleges: 2023 Edition,” as well as “Best Southeastern Colleges,” Great Schools for Business/Finance Majors, Great Schools for Communications Majors and in numerous Top 20 categories, including Best-Run Colleges, Best Career Services, Most Beautiful Campus, Most Active Student Government Association, Best College Dorms and Best Campus Food.

HPU’s national recognition is also evident in the success of graduates. Data collected by HPU in accordance with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) standards shows 98% of the Class of 2021 were employed or furthering their education within 180 days of graduating, 16 points higher than the national average.

HPU has achieved unprecedented growth and transformation since Dr. Qubein took office in 2005. At that time, U.S. News ranked HPU No. 17 among Regional Colleges in the South. Since that time, numerous milestones have been achieved in addition to national rankings. In August, the university welcomed a record number of new students, as well as the largest total enrollment in university history. HPU has more than tripled traditional undergraduate and graduate enrollment from 1,673 in 2005 to 6,000 students today, a 259% increase. HPU has also expanded the number of new academic schools. In 2005, HPU started with three academic schools and now offers 11 schools, including the new Workman School of Dental Medicine and the School of Law. In addition to academic growth, the university has grown from 91 acres to 520 acres.

At a press conference in March, Qubein unveiled a $400 million academic expansion, with three historic gifts totaling $100 million from three families in one month. Projects include a new facility for the Workman School of Dental Medicine, a new School of Law, the John and Lorraine Charman Library, student life facilities and additional campus improvement projects. These projects are expected to be complete by the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, HPU’s Centennial Anniversary.
